Needing some encouragement

I'm on day 6 of the pre op liquid diet.  The hungry seems easier to deal with now.  I'm actually enjoying the Chike protein drinks.

I keep reading so many conflicting reports such as, I haven't lost any weight or I've only lost 20 lbs in 4 months, etc.  I do think the LapBand is right for me and I have total confidence in my surgeon.  I have done all the research I can.  I've been to seminars and support group meetings and I'm not scared of the procedure.  I'm scared of falling back into the same old habits or mostly following the program and not seeing any results.

Anyone else feel this way a nine days before surgery?  I've wanted this for so long and I am very happy that the time has finally come.

HI!

You will see results.
IF... you make the decision to... claim it... its will happen.

I start my pre-op diet tomorrow. 2 weeks I will have the surgery.

I know going into this that I will be sucessful. I have made the ultimate decision and the lapband is a part of my being able to accomplish my goals.

SCREW out old habits. Im tired of abusing myself and punishing myself with food and crappy eating habits.

Your time has come... and before long you will astonish yourself with your progress, as long as you allow yourself!

CONGRATS!

No, u do NOT know that! U HOPE that just as I did. The Lap Band does NOT work for everyone............hell it doesn't even work for MOST PPL long term! If u to get success with it...........then u are LUCKY!

U want to tell that to all those bandsters on the revision forum that are revising to OTHER WLS'S b/c the band DIDN'T work for them??? Lol.

I was just the opposite at that point. I was completely excited and confident in the band! After the 5th fill.............the enthusiasm...............dropped a little............After the 7th fill...........dropped even more..........after the 10th fill...............I no longer expected the band to do ANYTHING for me at that point. I completely gave up hope. :-(

The band has worked for some. Not many. And it doesn't matter how much u try to "work WITH the band"...............if it doesn't work............it DOESN'T work! :-(

That being said............I certainly hope u have much better luck with your band than I have with mine!!!

You will see the results !!

Just remember the band dont stop you from making those bad choices
the band dont stop you from eating them high fat foods
the band dont stop  you from over eating

I will be 3 months post op the 22nd of this month .  I have lost 37 pounds and 23.5 inches since my surgery and that is on a totally empty band.  I have skipped all my fills so far so it can be done even if you dont have saline in your band.

There might be a week I will not lose any weight but then the following week I will drop anywhere from 2-4 pounds .

My goal is to lose to at least 8 pounds per doctors visit and I see him every 4-5 weeks and so far I have made my goal each time.  I just need to lose another 2.5 pounds by the 28th of this month and once again I reached my goal.

I havent given up any of my favorite foods I jus****ch how much I eat of it and how often I eat them.

I exercise also.  I do a hr long zumba on Monday nights and then Tuesday , Thursday and Sat I do Curves with Zumba fitness so you will need to exercise.

The hardest part is learning head hunger and physical hunger.  That is why I havent had a fill yet and plus I play a lot of mental games with myself also and its really helping.

Good luck you will be just fine :o)

My advice?
Get off the message boards!

You need to concentrate on you. Y O U !!!!

That is exactly what she DOESN'T need to do! She needs to be on here researching! She needs to be visiting the revision forum to see what WLS's ppl are revising FROM!

She needs to read the ASMBS report about how they think the band is a very ineffective WLS!

www.medpagetoday.com/MeetingCoverage/ASMBS/20919

She needs to be researching so she DOESN'T make a mistake...........or if she does............that she at least goes into it with her eyes wide open and is realistic about what her actual chances are of having a working band!

Really? That's what you think?

You think it's a comfortable feeling that you are about to have a surgery to change your life & your on a message board where you aren't given clear facts about your surgery but instead everyone's personal opinion on how their banding surgery went. Good or bad? NO. NO NO!

She needs to research information on being a good bander. She needs to research information about complications, actual documented facts, on the band. She needs to research her options.

She doesn't need to sit here & listen to everyone's personal opinion. That's not actual fact based documentation. Hearing everyone's success isn't going to help her. Hearing everyone's defeats are not going to help her. Personal opinions are not going to give her the fact based information available (god or bad) about the band. It's just going to confuse her even more.

She needs to concentrate on HERSELF! Making sure she's okay with the surgery physically & mentally. She doesn't need to go into surgery mentally stress because she's continued to read the personal opinion conflicts going on on the message board. That's the least thing she needs.

I'm sorry you don't see it that way, but I do. And I have a right to state my opinion!

Yes..........that is exactly what she needs. To read about REAL experiences of REAL bandsters! I wish I had visited the band forum before I got my band! Seeing all the band failures would have made me reconsider my decision!

~ Personal opinions are not going to give her the fact based information available (god or bad) about the band. It's just going to confuse her even more. ~

That is why I provided her with the link to the ASMBS that basically says that the American Assoc. of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons think the Lap Band is CRAP!

Yes u are entitled to your opinion and have a right to state it. Just as I do!

Maria,
I am really sorry the lap band didn't work for you.  Fortunately, everyone is not the same.  Prayerfully, I will have good results. I'm willing to work hard.  Do what I need to do as far as eating and exercise.  If I do what I'm suppose to do with those two things I will lose weight with or without the band  It's just going to be a tool to assist me on my journey.  I'm not looking for the magic "pill" anymore.  I'm relying on me and the assistance of a little band.  I'm not setting myself up for failure.

I've done a lot of research and I know the pros and cons of all the surgeries.  The Lap Band is the best choice for me.  Again, sorry it wasn't for you.
