Just saw some messages asking why I had my first band removed, and it wont let me...
HI!
Ok, first banded 7/2006 by the awesome Dr. Curry, everything went great in the beginng, I lost like 80 lbs, and then I went onto normal food and I was always feeling too tight. Dr. Curry placed a 4 cc band which for me was too small according to my new surgeon. Dr. Curry also told me that I may do better with a newer 10-15cc AC band. I was diagnosed with an autoimmune inflammatory disease sarcoidsosis, which I feel made my stomach tissue swell. I had many fluro's even with no fluid in the band I had a stricture, I got an ulcer from the tightness of the band, and a hiatal hernia from the constant vomiting. i started to feel bulimic. but I wasn't losing weight because what I could eat easily was slider foods, so I started to gain weight back. At that point I lost hope in my band and my self. Then I had the band taken out. boy did I regain my love for my band. I could eat full meals again, and ballooned to 260 lbs, my highest weight EVER. I went and got a new job and new insurance just to get my band back. I will do this the right way, I learned my lesson about slider foods, and taking advantage of and testing your band. it is a tool, but you are in control. I needed therapy and still do becasue I am an emotional eating. Fat isn't the problem for me, it's the side effect of what is really going on. Did I fail my first band? I don't know , I feel like it was a little bit of it being too small of a band (they rarely use 4cc bands anymore), and me eating around my band because it was terrible puking everything up!
I also drank Soda, and I think that has a huge impact on my weight.
So to those of you who think "she failed" the first, thats your opinion and I could honestly care less what you think. I know me, I know my situation, and last time I checked we were all here to help eachother, and sometimes failure happens. Pick yourself up and start again. I love my band, I was without it for 9 months and I never want to be without it again!!! So if you have any questions or comments feel free.
Thanks!
Crystal

Good luck with your second chance. I wish you the best!
Just wondering if u drank the regular or diet soda's? I have been afraid to pu**** with the carbonation, but I have noticed several WLS'ers that do carbonation. I hear a wide variety of things about carbonation. Everything from don't drink it b/c it will streach the "pouch"..........to as long as the gas is not a problem for u it's ok to drink.
Seems to be varying opinions on the straw also!
Good luck!!!
Hey Maria
about soda, well, mostly diet pepsi, but sometimes I would have regular soda. unfortunately, I tolerated it just fine. Dr. Curry said to let the soda sit a bit to lose some bubbles, and I did and it was fine. Beer, I couldn't really drink because I would get a gas pain. but nope soda went down fine, I haven't had soda in 13 days, and I'm not even going to try it this time!
It's totally up to your surgeon, but as far as i'm aware, the soda had no impact on my band. just my weight ;-)

You never fail until you stop trying. Good luck on your journey. On a side note I drink diet soda, once a day in very small quantity (3 oz) with lotsa ice. I stopped for a long time but missed the taste.
