To get the most out of your band
To get the most out of your band:-
1. Be positive
2. Be patient.
3. Be compliant ( most of the time)
4. Enjoy little successes, even if they seem slow in coming
5. Accept whatever help the band gives you; even if at times it doesn't seem like much
6. Know that for the vast majority of us, restriction will come but understand that this does not mean an automatic stop to eating, just a help in keeping hunger at bay
7. Remember that things go wrong with any wls
8. Remember that we chose a surgery which leaves us in control
9. Remember that we are not stupid! We did our research and made our choice!
10. Listen to all sides of people's experience (the good and the bad) BUT
11. Remember that people who set out to frighten rather than inform are not nice people and don't deserve our attention.

Highest 290, Banded - 248 Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.
Happily banded since May 2006. Regain of 28lbs 2013-14. ALL GONE!
But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,
Perfect timing Kate. I am just horrified at the yuck I have been reading on here. As a therapist I have learned that personality disorders are fairly intractible if the person puts their energy into being provocative and sadistic. I believe we have a dedicated and deeply wounded person lurking here in the site. I say block her and get on with things. For all of you newbies who are looking for support and advice, use your judgment about who is responding to you. if they seem to have an agenda that feels hurtful or scary to you exercise your right to ignore or block. AS they say in 12 step groups " take what you need and leave what you don't".
Thanks for the reminders Kate!

I like #11 and I have tried to follow that one. I don't get involved with the WLS wars, I have better things to do with my time like exercising or volunteering etc etc.
Kate, thanks for all that you contribute to the board!

Thanks Kate! Good timing! I have been a little discouraged today. I am 7 weeks post-op and i have lost approx. 31 lbs. including the 9 that i lost pre-op. But the scale isn't moving very much right now. I am excercising and really trying to comply with how much i am supposed to eat, even if i don't get full. I know its not supposed to come off fast but I like to see results.
Thanks,
Lisa
