Band Gremlins, just for fun...

I just responded to a poster about slider foods and it made me think of something that I thought would be fun to share on this Friday.

It's always amazed me how my band will accept certain foods no problem, but the most innocent of foods, healthy foods, will be rejected.  In my mind I've always imagined that there are these little Gremlins living in my stoma.  As I give them food, they recieve it, consider it and either accept or deny it.

For instance, yesterday I was eating fabulous blueberries that I got at costco.  Soft, small, chew, chew, chew, etc.  Band Gremlins say, "Oh, blueberries, we love those, but only the juice.  You can have backt the skins!"  So, up come the skins!

How can the band distiguish a cracker from a blueberry skin, chewed up peeled apple from cottage cheese, etc?  It must be the Band Gremlins!

What are some of the odd things that your Band Gremlins reject?

It's easy for it to figure it out.

When you eat a blueberry skin your stomach isn't really going to break it down much more.  It goes through the stoma as is or not at all.  With a cracker your saliva will turn it into a mush and it slides right through.

If you took a cup of water and put blueberry skins in there and another cup of water and put a cracker in there, what would the difference be?  See what i mean?

Oh, I get it, I was just going for levity.  Thanks though, it's a good example.

Asparagus stalks.  I can eat the soft tops, but not the stalks.  Suppose I should have known that as they're similar to celery stalks, but I so love asparagus that I didn't want it to be.

My gremlins don't like melon! Soft, ripe, water-filled melons! Any type. However well chewed! They don't reject it as such but won't let me eat more than two or three small chunks.

And they really don't like raspberries. Three or so raspberries and they all gang up and magically turn themselves into a large golf ball at the base of my thoat!

Highest 290, Banded - 248   Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.

Happily banded since May 2006.  Regain of 28lbs 2013-14.  ALL GONE!

But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,

Lettuce ---- poor, innocent lettuce just does not go down.

I can eat asparagus and pineapple and sweet potato and fruits of all kinds.
I can eat zucchini, eggplant, anything really with skin --- but not lettuce.

Oh,well --- the band wins every time!!
