I cant believe that Livestrong.com suggest I eat 1695 A DAY!! in order to lose 2 lbs a week!!

That is an insane amount of calories!!! That cant be right! If I really need to eat that much just to lose 2lbs a week I am so WAY UNDER like 695 calories under.

Can websites like these really be trusted?

Has anyone used Livestrong.com and followed their recomendations?

If so let me know because if I need to eat that much to lose 2lbs a week then Hey I'm All For It!

Hi,  My surgery coach said to figure 10 calories for your weight, NOT present weight but GOAL weight.  So if your goal is 140 then you should have 1400 cal/day.  Of course I can't do that as close out of surgery as I am, but something to keep in my mind for later. Check w/ you NUT.     Mag

My calories are calculated at 890 for 2 pounds a week.  Did you enter your current weight?  I seem to remember that you had to select how active you usually are.  Did you indicate that you were very active?  If you listed that, maybe that's the reason for the high calorie count.

I calculated my BMR (this tells you how many calories your body needs just to maintain weight) and I was told my body nedds something like 2800 calories just to maintain...YA RIGHT!!!! If I ate that much I would gain back all the weight I lost!!!

Some times I think those calculators aren't very accurate.

I don't pay any attention to those. I just set my calorie goal myself. I can't remember what it's set at right now. EIther 1200 or 1000.

You might want to try it again, and make sure you have everything entered correctly, and then double check what it says afterwards.  I got a very high calculation, too, but realized it said that was the amount to "gain 2 lbs. per week".  Did it again, and it still seemed high, so I looked again, and even though I *know* I clicked "lose 2 lbs.", it said "lose 1 lb".  Tried a 3rd time.  This time I got 1245 calories to lose 2 lbs. per week.  I still think that might be a little high, but reasonable.

For those wondering about the site, it's:

MY surgeon told me last week that my BMR was about 1650 calories. I told him if he locked me in a room with cameras on me 24/7 and I was given 1650 calories a day with no access to get anything else I would be up 20 lbs in a month. I only lose if under 1000 a day and I maintain at about 1100.

2 pounds = 7000 calories

7000/14 days = 500 calories per day

If your body needs 2000 calories/day for basic function (on average, and there are sites to calculate that) and you eat 1500/day (or burn off that extra 500 calories) you would lose 2 lbs/wk.
