Going to a mexican joint tonight...what should I order?
I always order a small bowl of black beans (or refried if they do not have that option) with lots of shredded cheese, guacamole & sour cream on top. Once I was out of the mushies phase, I now add shredded lettuce and salsa to that concoction. It's a bowl of yummy goodness and I do not miss the tortillas and/or chips at all!
Really, seriously consider what's being said. Until you have had the dubious pleasure of sliming in public you really can't imagine what it's like. I have never actually thrown up in company but I have had to excuse myself for several minutes as I foamed at the mouth because I didn't chew a shrimp well enough (like Kate, I was yakking away and not paying attention to what I was doing). When I returned to the group I felt like everyone was wondering why the heck my face was so red and what I'd been doing in the bathroom all that time.
On the other hand, if you do happen to have a sliming/vomiting episode early on in your weightloss you'll likely not have one again for a very long time because in the future you will avoid like the plague whatever caused it!
This is of course too late for tonight..........but for future reference..............Tortilla soup is a great option. Also if u have a Kroger near u they have tortilla soup in their deli section. It's like $4 per container and has 4 servings. I now buy this and I cook some black beans and add to it for a higher protein count. By adding the black beans I get 5 or 6 servings out of it.
When u start developing some restriction u will prob. have trouble with rice or flour tortillas. Until then u should have no problem with it, but after U would prob. want to elliminate or reduce those things. I get enchalladas or chicken soft taco's on corn tortillas and have no problem with them. Also refried or black beans are a great option. And shrimp is a very good protein source.
Hope u had a great dinner!
I am so glad to read all of these comments. Thanks guys! I haven't gotten my band yet, but was wondering if I'd ever be able to eat Mexican food after. I know it will be awhile before I can have it and that there is no garuntee for certain foods. However, knowing these tips ahead of time is helpful. That just might get me through the liquid/mushie phase.
