Going to a mexican joint tonight...what should I order?
Just a word of warning! Until you get used to regular foods, be very careful of spicy foods and of shrimps! Many people find them difficult! And it is a good idea, until you are very confident with your band, never to try a new food in publi****il you have tried it at home!
On your first resturant outing, I would be more concerned about having an eating issue than I would about calories!
Guacamole and refried beans are easy to eat foods.
Highest 290, Banded - 248 Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.
Happily banded since May 2006. Regain of 28lbs 2013-14. ALL GONE!
But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,
Yes Kate I agree...Im more worried about something I can eat okay....I mean I would like to keep it healthy too of course but dont want a stuck episode:) Im thinking ceviche...this place cuts its all up so small with a little guacamole on top....I think I will be okay and its not really spicy. Do you think I could do a few chips?
I really do agree with Hermosa! And i don't know what ceviche is!
Chips may be a slider food, for most people they are. But the trouble is that when you are eating on a social occasion, you chat. And even now, at almost 5 years out, i am taking part in a conversation, someone says something, i want to jump in and reply and - wham! I swallow what is in my mouth without thinking!

I think that the SAFEST food is Chicken Tortillia soup --- not always very filling, but if I am just going for the atmosphere/company and don't want to risk getting stuck, it is safe and I eat more protein at home if I need to.
These days, Mexican food is usually my 'one night a week treat'---and I order ground beef nachos and eat a few of them with all of the fixins I love and leave the rest behind.
have fun!!

You can eat the bean and cheese burro just open it up and eat the insides.
I'm not sure when I ate solid food.. I'm two years out.. I'm assuming 3-4 weeks.. liquids for a week then mushy for 2 weeks or so..
I was lucky that I felt restriction with the placement alone. It best you learn from now to eat with a fork and not the tortilla or the chip or the cracker.. it makes it easier to let those things go. I too wrap a ton of things in lettuce or use cucumber as a scoop.
Some chips, crackers are sliders but some are dense and get stuck .. (depending on the thickness)
Ceviche is not mushy food.. it takes quite a bit of chewing.. mushy would be black refried beans .. You might not get full on soup but I agree a chicken tortilla soup maybe 1 chicken taco just the insides.
I cant eat enchiladas or tamales anymore and I'm mexican and it's hard but you get past it. I can eat corn tortillas but only if I cook them at home and they are crunchy (but I can't eat taco sheels or toasadas) but when they are soggy with sauce they get stuck.. Most places are so great just ask can I have the insides of a enchilada with the sauce on top but no tortilla and they will make it.. they just pile it on a plate.
You need to remember you are in a very different place than we are because you just had surgery you really need to proceed with caution. You want to make sure you don't cause a stuck eposide that will cause you to vomit
