Do you have access to a nutritionist at your surgeons office?  Not all practices want you to count calories because with the band you also have to consider volume.  The pouch only holds about 4 ounces at a time so if you consistently over-fill the pouch you may cause problems down the road.  There are a lot of charts out there that will tell you how many calories you should eat, but they aren't geared toward Bariatric surgery patients and will generally be more than you should be eating with the band.

I'm just guessing, but I would say 1500-2000 calories would be about right for a big guy, but you really need to consult your surgeon and his staff because they are the ones managing your WL program.

Probably more important than counting calories you should focus on getting enough dense protein in your daily diet, (80-100 grams).  Watch the simple carbs and change over to whole grains and complex carbs.  Keep your portions to 1 cup or  less and try for either 3 meals a day or 6 smaller meals if you get hungry between meals.

Don't be afraid to ask your surgeon questions.  It's a shame that they haven't already provided you with a specific food advancement and nutritional protocol.  I would ask them about that!

In the meantime, feel free to keep asking questions here.  Just remember, there is no ONE way to lose weight with the band.  You're going to get a lot of opinions here.  That's why I deferred to my surgeons program to avoid confusion.  It worked for me.

Best~

I have roughly 1200 calories a day & I'm losing a pound every week, so I would think you need slightly more, maybe 1500

Good luck!

My NUT says that she doesn't care how many calories I eat as long as I am getting 65-85 grams of protein per day.

I typically eat about 1000 calories a day!

As Lisa said, you should consult your Dr. or NUT to find out what your specific needs are.

Good luck,
Steph  =-)
