Do you ever worry that something will happen and you'll regain the weight?

I've done great with my band and I know it's the only reason why I'm succeeding at losing weight this time. I'm very happy I got it but occasionally I worry how permanent it is. I mean what if it slips or something and has to be removed? My insurance paid for it but I assume if anything ever happens to it then I'll just try the vertical sleeve next even If I have to pay cash for it.

Am I the only one that has these concerns?

I have no doubt whatsoever that if I ever have to lose my band, i will regain.

So first I hope I won't lose it.
Then I hope that if I do it can be replaced.
Then i hope that if it can't be replaced i will be able to fight my weight battle unaided. (I won't go down the other surgery route.)

Lots of hopes!

Not worth worrying about. I love the here and now!

Highest 290, Banded - 248   Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.

Happily banded since May 2006.  Regain of 28lbs 2013-14.  ALL GONE!

But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,

Hello

Yes this is a fear of mine.  I have a friend that did great with her band.  Then last year a complication developed and she lost her band....she has since regained 150 lbs!!!  So to see it happen to someone right in front of me really make me fear it.

Although, I do eat healthier now and I exercise 6 days a week, 90 minutes a day.  I am hoping my new healthy habits will help keep some of those pounds off.  I have come to the conclusion that we need to make an effort to live as if we don't have a band and make healthy food choice, be active,  exercise...then if the unexpected happens hopefully the regain won't be so bad.

I always say hope for the best, prepare for the worst!!!

I think any sensible person will have these concerns/worries.  That is why I cringe when I read on here I have lost so many pounds gone forever.  I have been reading this board siince long before I was banded so I have seen many people come on here lose like gangbusters disappear for a while then come back struggling with regain.    Or even the ones who don't go crazy with tightness or exercise and have the same thing happen come back with regain.

So we have to take it day to day and just hope we can catch any regain quickly and get it back under control it will be a lifelong thing.

I agree with Cheryl on this one.  I have been on this board for 4 years now and have seen ****iness of some bandsters that THINK they have resolved their unhealthy food relationships and eating habits, and proudly say "x number of pounds gone forever!".

I can tell you that I DID have something happen to me and I DID regain some weight back.  I had a slip that required surgery.  Being unfilled and then without restriction for 8 months....PLUS having lost my mojo over two  years out from original surgery, I regained 40 pounds.

It's depressing.

My insurance paid for the revision to fix my band.  If I experience another complication I will try for another WLS because I know I can't keep it off on my own.....but seriously, how much can I expect my insurance company to keep paying for??  LOL

Melly,  I know what you mean about the ins. co.  I've saved up to get myself new boobs but I keep thinking maybe I should just continue to save it in case I have to pay for a new WLS.  I would rather be thinner and have no boobs than have the boobs and get back up to over 300.

Oh well one day we will figure out all of the worlds problems.  Until then who knows.

Yeah I know what you mean. Last month our rates went up for the year but I can't complain b/c they paid for SO MUCH stuff for me last year. But if I need another WLS or a revision they will probably run screaming.

You and Melly don't feel bad about what your insurance companies are paying. Insurance companies are just on the edge of finally figuring out they will pay FAR more for treatment of obesity related illnesses. Ever price out a new hip or bypass surgery? It's A LOT less than bariatric surgery. : )

Concerns about my band don't cross my mind.

Concerns about regain do. Anyone with any type of surgery that assumes the weight is "gone forever" has a false sense of security.

Our obesity is/was a disease. We will never be cured, we are all only in remission. I feel like obesity is always lurking, breathing down my neck "I will get you my pretty!" LOL

We all have that chance of falling back into old habits and re-gaining. I have been banded twice, so I have had a band for almost 7 yrs now. I have had small regains when I slack off and than fortunately have always been able to pull myself together before I spiral out of control.
