So Sorry to hear that you have been through so much. I can tell you that you are right, life does go on after WLS.
Don't be so hard on yourslef all the time. Give yourself a break now and then and use those feelings of I have failed to get you going again instead of letting them stop you.
There are certain things in food that can make you addicted to them for sure. Certain fats and additives and such can make you want more and more of them so food can have the same effect on us as drugs and such.
When you are feeling stressed and you find yourself reaching for food to put in your mouth why don't you try writting down what it is that you are feeling at that very moment. That might not stop you from eating that food but you just may be able to see what it is that is bothering you so that you can take time to deal with it instead of covering up those feeling with food. I know that this has helped me in the past.
Keep moving forward and things will get better.
