Hi,

I received my band on 1/25/11 and have not had any problems. i am starting to feel hungry and find myself craving all the wrong things. I am sticking to the diet and have lost 20 lbs, but am so afraid of failure.

Will this hunger lessen after my 1st fill?

So happy to have found this site and look forward to learning from you all.

Don't feel discouraged, 20 lbs is great! I was banded on 1/28/11 and only have lost 13 so far. I would think that the fill will help you, because you will have restriction, making food stay at the top of your stomach longer giving you a full feeling. JUST HANG IN THERE!

Hi and congrats on your surgery!!  Glad all is well so far for you.   I'm sorry you are feeling hungry already.  It seems some folks are hungry right off the bat and others like myself, not so.
The craving part is what is called head hunger and sometimes just head hunger will make you physically hungry or feel that you are anyway cause food is on the brain big time.  What phase diet are you on?  Is it still liquids or purees??  Are you drinking enough?  I had trouble getting a lot of liquids in after surgery.  It takes so long to get to the bottom of a glass when you're just suppose to sip at it.   Hopefully once you are on real food and if you follow the rules and don't drink with your meals or for 1 hr after and you chew chew chew your food and eat slowly, your pouch will stay full and you won't be so hungry.  But that is no guarantee.  Like I said, some folks are really hungry and that is known as bandster hell for obvious reasons.
Try hard to do what you are suppose to.  It will get easier.

hi Lyn, thanks for your reply to this message - I just had my first fill yesterday (0 cc to 5cc in a 10 cc band) and I just had my "first" meal - which was lunch...I did chew chew chew and I didn't eat all of the (lettuce - I had a salad) but don't feel "full" like I think I should...?!?  I had a small tuna salad from Quizno's with their romaine lettuce, tomatoes & onion (I'm going to make my own so that the mayo I use is controlled by me but I need to get a few staples from the store, so I opted out) but I actually still feel hungry...I thought hmmm 5 cc's that's a lot, but maybe not?  i go back in 6 weeks to see if I need another fill.  Also, I have trouble just "sipping" on liquids so I actually drink out of a straw to control the amount I swallow at one time - do you know if there is a huge issue on this (ie: if you drink too much at a time, can it damage or cause the band to slip)?

Thanks!

Ugh - I'm afraid to move LOL! :)

They advertise this wonderful book, "Bandwagon" on this site. I highly recommend it! It answers your question and lots more. I wi**** had been around when I was looking at AGB surgery and just got it! But, I got banded before the author! And I don't get any money from Miss JM for suggeting it! K

As far as craving all the wrong things..........I know that feeling well. However if u don't buy it and bring it into the house, it's not there most of the time when u want it, and if u have to be conveneinced by getting out and going to the store to actually get it..........that is a deterent!

And for your first fill...........u probably won't get restriction then either. I was told prior to my surgery to expect it in 3-5 fills. Unfortunatly that NEVER happeded! :-( I have now had 15 fills and still no restriction/sweet spot. Hopefully u will be one of the lucky ones though!

Also when you are craving the wrong things go on eggface's website. She has tons of great WLS recipe's! Since u are just a few wks. out though, some of the things I did early out were sf pudding, nsa applesauce, Crystal Light popcicles, I also added unflavored protein to my broth.

You are doing great... be roud of that 20 pounds..amazing!!!  i got hungry fast too.. i did the greek yogurt and that helped with the shakes.. i dont think that hungry feeling ever goes away. .i think after the surgery you relize how strong your sence of smell is and the control it has over you....dont think of failer you have done great so far and talk to your nutrisionest.. they had to talk me off the edge one day over grilled chicken in the beginning ..remember they are there to help you!!!

Good luck!!!
