I need to have my port removed (not replaced...long story) but I really want to know ALL the details.  I am assuming it is Same Day Surgery, but I am praying they don't just numb it up and cut it out!  Do they give you IV sedation?  How long does it take?  How long an incision?  How long before I can go home?  Pain meds??

Please, someone who has had it done, tell me every step of the way from when you got to the hospital until you left!

It can be done with lidocaine or full general anesthesia.  It's really no big deal.  It doesn't hurt when they remove the port, it hurts for 2 weeks post op.  Like a pulled muscle.  Seriously, not a big deal.

I intend to go with the Propofil or whatever like that is offered.  I cringed when I read about the woman that had it done under local...NOT for me!  I was interested in the time frame of being out of work.  It seems that Jean needed a longer amount of time than Bette...don't know about the others that have shared.

Honestly, it's not a big deal.  The removal doesn't hurt, the post op time hurts.  But it doesn't hurt anymore than having a port placed.  Same thing.
