I was eating real food after surgery just in liquid form...I know that's not what you meant...I think I was back to eating solid foods and normal foods 3 weeks after surgery. I dont remember what it was but it had to be good...

About 4 weeks. But I never had protein shakes - it was real food all the way, just in different forms!

I can't remember my first meal of non-blended or soft food. But i do remember that it was very, very soon after i started on them that I had poahced salmon and had the only long lasting epsiode of being stuck i have ever had! So start carefully!

I started eating real food about 6 weeks post op and AS TOLERATED, I never pushed things, some foods I was able to eat and some gave me trouble, but you can progress slowly and per your surgeons instructions, I think the protocol for all lap banders is to wait until about 4-6 weeks post op to start back to solids, you want your band to fully heal before eating solids.

Also a word of advice your first year is your MOST important in terms of healing, try your best to avoid vomiting, alcohol, carbonated beverages and go slowly with your fills, if you take care of your band the first year, it will take care of you forever. I am now going on 6 years post and I feel my band is very secure at this point and I did not feel that security in my first year, and I strongly believe it takes a full year for the band to totally heal and form scar tissue to hold it securely for years.

Thank you guys. My first fill is on the 23rd. I want to take the fills slow. Im nervous about it. I barely ever drink alcohol...once every couple months...Im fine without soda....and even without breads. Do any of you have trouble with tortillas?

I am four weeks out today. I am allowed to start soft foods today. That means I can eat pretty much anything healthy that can be easily cut with a fork. I just had a small piece of chicken breast with an little spoon of potatoes. I have read and heard that tortillas and bread or anything doughy can get stuck. But I have yet to try any of that so I'm not a good one to answer that question. Hng in there. "Real food" isn't that far away.
