Acid relfux - have I solved it (for me)??Your opinions please!

This is probably totally off the wall! Any medical people out there, feel free to tell me this is complete nonsense! It's just a thought I have had!

Context, some sort of bug, involving swollen glands and production of mucus. Band feels tighter (always does when I am not well) but this time goes a bit further than usual. Two night of really bad sleep due to reflux. Not as bad as some get it and much of it just threatened rather than actual! But not nice!

Last night - same bug but no reflux! The difference - nights one and two i took a liquid decongestant. Night three, I didn't. My thought process....

Decongestants presumably somehow dry things up!
Dehydration (dryness!) makes me feel my band is tighter.

Is it possible that the decongestant made my band tighter and so caused the reflux???

What do you think? Loony idea or possible?   Kate

Julie, I am still tighter than I like but the reflux seems to be minimal - although not totally gone.

I am sorry about yours! Any idea of the cause?

I'm in a strange city, eating strange food and I flew 5 hours to get here. I'm drinking less water than I should and drinking more alcohol than I should. I'm in a much drier climate than what I'm used to.

Could be any of the above, really.

Things that make you go hmmm.

Its definitely an interesting theory which brings me to another potential point. I have been taking one to two tylenol PM at bedtime due to insomnia. Its major side effect is dehydration. My band has been pretty snug lately. I was wondering why but this could be part of it.

Sarah - yes, definitely a hmmm! I didn't know that dehydration was a side effect of any painkillers (we don't have tylenol here).  But if that is so, my medicine was a sort of double whammy - it was a "flu" mix of decongestant and paracetamol.

Actually its not the painkiller side that seems to cause the dehydration, its the sleeping pills portion and your pill probably had something of that nature since they generally cause drowsiness. Years ago I was prescribed lunesta and it was about 10 times worse with the dehydration problem which is why I caught on to that being the specific problem with the tylenol PM. Regular tylenol doesnt dehydrate me at all.

If you don't need the Tylenol, try Anbesol...it is the ingredient that makes you sleep in the OTC pain reliever + sleep aid.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have seen that they sell the sleep aid over the counter that is the same ingredient but it is more than twice as much price wise...for the same thing minus the pain reliever. Marketing sucks, lol
