When did you start exercising after surgery?
Hello
I'm glad to see you ask this question. As far as walking goes you can start that right away. As far as any other exercise like jogging, aerobic, or weght lifting I had to wait for 6 weeks. Unfortunately, I didn't exercise. It wasn't until I got so frustrated with my weight loss that I started a real exercise program. When you are released for exercise make sure you combine cardio with resistance training (weight lifting). Any trainer or book you read will tell you this.

Thanks for the replies ladies! Well, so far I'm mostly just doing a lot of walking around my house, through cleaning and packing(I'M MOVING!!!), and then I also have 5 lb weights, so I use one of them and work my arm muscles( trying not to lift high above my head. I also have started doing squats in front of my dressers mirror off the side if my bed. Trust I am totally focused and ready to get all the working out that I need IN! I know this thing is not going to come on its own, so I'm coming to it!

I was allowed to do cardio 'as desired' after the first day -- but no weight work for 6 weeks.
I was not supposed to lift anything heavier than a gallon of milk ---- so, I walked the first week (about 3 miles a day at an easy pace) and then I started back up on the elliptical after that.
No crunches for about 8 weeks.

Hey all,
I just had my blood work visit on Friday the 4th and my surgery is the 25th. I asked the bariatric nurse when I can drive and go back to the gym. She said I can drive as soon as I feel up to it as long as I'm not on any narcotic painkillers.... As for the gym she said as soon as I feel up to it to get back. I can do treadmill and bike, but that's it for 6 weeks. She said no resistance training, not even the bands until after 6 weeks. Hope this helps as I'm learning too.
I've orderd my meditrim shakes and bars too. I got 3 choc shakes coming and 5 of the Peanut butter crunch bars. This is Dr. B in Monctons route of choose for the 2week before surgery diet. Oh and I'm allowed 1 coffee a day with milk, thank God! Take care all

My doctor suggested to start immediately and gave no restrictions. A friend of mine however pulled something around her band picking up her 9 month old baby and later had a slip which required a whole other surgery so I would say no heavy lifting for a week or two. Otherwise go crazy...good luck!
