Almost out of Bandster hell

SO I am 6 weeks post op.  I am pretty much healed up.  NO fill yet and band is empty.  I feel like I am slipping back into old habits now because I am hungry with no restriction. ( I know , I know this is normal for some).  So the other night we were out and ordered a pizza.  I was starving.  I sat and talked and ate and before I knew it I had eaten 4 slices of pizza!!!  and NOTHING happened.  I honestly felt like I could have gone for another one but I didn't.   What the heck was I thinking.
My husband laughed at me and wondered if I really had the surgery.
My first fill is Wednesday. I can't wait to get out of this hell hole and hit a stop point. .

BTW.. I don't normally eat like that.  In fact I haven't had pizza since the surgery except that night.  I was just shocked I could fit all that and not have a problem.   I usually eat smaller portions and much much healthier stuff.  I am not losing , but not gaining either.  I am still losing some inches though..Thank GOD.  This has been a longgggggggggggg 6 weeks.

I'm with you, but just be careful to maintain realistic expectations about your first fill. I had my first fill in December. 1 cc and I don't feel any different. I go for my next one next week. My understanding is that is can take a few fills before we reach restriction, and a few more before we hit the "sweet spot."

Good luck at your fill! I was nervous but it was a total BREEZE. :-)

Just so you know, your first fill may not give you restriction either. I know it is hard, but really concentrate on sticking to solid proteins and measuring your food. It will keep the weighloss momentum going and will help you be prepared for when you really DO have restriction!!! Hang in there :) :)

Edited to add:
my first fill was 1 mnth post-op: 2cc
my second fill was 3 months post-op: 2cc
my third fill was 1cc 6 months post-op: 1cc

I didn't get restriction from any of them. I had other issues in bewtween (2nd surgery... GB removed) so that also accounted for some of the delays. It wasn't until my 4th fill 8 months post-op that I noticed restriction. And then I developed a leak and it all went down hill. lol. So my will power gave up!

You have no restriction and swelling has gone down. It is like before surgery. You need to be practicing your new habits and be aware of the old ones. When you eat slower and chew chew chew this may help because it takes longer.
Remember- just because you can eat more doesn't mean you have too! ( I hate that saying but t is true)
Good luck.

Restriction or no restriction, I would be scared to death to do damage to my band this early out eating that much food.  There are times when I feel like I could probably eat more than I have portioned out for myself but I DONT DO IT because no matter what, I need to follow the band rules because you can cause complications down the line.

You may not be getting any effects from it now, but you could cause problems like slippage, erosion, esophageal dilitation.  All of that scares me enough to not mess around with the amount of food Im taking in.

Im definitely not an expert on this because I had my surgery not long before you...but i have read over and over again on here...."just because you can doesnt mean you should"

check with your nutritionist... You may need support from her/him to stay on track so you don't regain what you've lost so far!

Girlfriend I hear ya!  I'm only 1 week out and I can eat more soup and drink more liquids than I thought I'd be able to so I KNOW you are going through some things.  It is THE hardest thing to try to watch what we eat on our own or we wouldn't have gotten the lap-band in the first place. So now its time to show what we are made of and try to put our best foot forward and try to stick to our plan before we get the restriction we need to succeed.  Try to eat out of measured dishes.i.e. cups and bowls. That is what is helping me. Also try writing down what you ate so that way you can see what you could have eaten differently.  UGH! It is hard but we can do it.

Love,
Telisha
