Its all about the surgeon and the aftercare...NOT THE WLSThat's not really true. I had a fantastic surgeon, I followed the rules to a T. I lost my band just as most do.
Even the band makers say 88% will have complications, 25% will have their band removed in the first 5 years. That's not the surgeon or the people, that is the band.

Not to be argumentative but how can you possibly make that statement after having WLS for less than a month? If you look at the revision boards and the Failed WLS boards, you will see that it absolutely can be the specific WLS, whether it be the band, RNY, sleeve or DS. Some failures can be attributed to surgeon or user error, but I was the poster child for the band and I had not one but TWO band slips and was advised by a leading band surgeon to revise from a band to a sleeve. Most times it IS the WLS that fails, not the patient, and to make people think otherwise is irresponsible, especially when you really haven't experienced the good, bad and ugly of it all.

Today is my 3 year Bandiversary! I absolutely love my LapBand!
I am very close to my goal. It has taken longer to lose my weight, but I have been in control of it and I've learned how to eat properly for the rest of my life! I've controlled how tight I've had my band - which isn't very tight and I have learned what is healthy and what is not.
I truly think it's up to the surgeon, the follow up care, and You!
12/09 and 6/11, 9 skin removal procedures with Dr. Sauceda in Monterrey Mexico
Revised to the Sleeve after losing 271 lbs with the LapBand.
It is NOT all about the surgeon or the aftercare, that is a total load from a newbie who hasn't lived with the band more than 8 days. Even the band makers are quite clear, 88% have complications, 25% will have their band removed in the first 5 years. Why is it that they go on to revise to another surgery type and do well long term? If they couldn't follow the rules with a band they couldn't follow the rules with any surgery type. Yet they revise to another surgery type, lose weight, and maintain. Something does not add up here. It is not the person, it is not the surgeon, it is the surgery type.
Just remember, ins co's are going to a one WLS in a lifetime rule. Your odds for self pay for your revision are better than ins paying for your revision. Choose wisely.

Well, That LOAD is my opinion...I have tons of friends and family members who have done all types of WLS....And the MAJORITY of them that had any issues were because of the surgeon...and not doing enough research on that surgeon...Also, Most people who has had any complications were because they did not follow the Band rules to a T! Weither I have had my band 8 days or 8 years how am I any less knowledgable that any of you FAILED BANDSTERS....Seriously...If you hate the band and you have nothing to say but negative things to the NEWBIES....Get OUT OF THE LAPBAND Forum and go to the general WLS FORUM and ***** there! People here are trying to make positive changes in their lives...Dont need Negative Nancies here! Im sooooo sick of all the negativity! Why dont you wish Bandster luck and well...instead of talk about your negativity! Thanks for your opinion ladies....now that was mine!
