Negative Nancies Need NOT TO RESPOND

I totally get what she said...don't post it on the Lap Band forum. I happen to disagree. I think the Lap Band forum is the proper place for a Lap Band concern rather than the Main forum.

I was not trying to stick it to her, I was simply disagreeing. I think all Lap Band victories/questions/concerns have a place on the Lap Band forum. I also don't view someone with a genuine lap band concern as '*****ing and complaining.'

Thanks,
Lindsey

, I so much agree, when I used to lurk this site over 3 years ago, there was so much enthusiasm here and positive posts, and those that failed their bands or had a complications were scared to post negative things here because they were run off to the Failed band forum or Regrets forum, those forums are barely used, something need to be done about that.

There is nothing wrong for people to share THEIR experiences with the band whether negative or positive, but to just come here and post all these stupid stats on how the band does not work and how we are all doomed to have it removed in 5-10 years is plan abusive, if we are not having any complications and not vomiting every day, why should our future be so bleak with the band??, This is nonsense and I am tired of hearing it, I agree if you plan on posting here for sometime you need to start blocking where you can concentrate on your weight loss efforts.

I've been thinking the same thing for a few days now. The negativity towards a surgery which we just had is not encouragement. It's discouraging. Kinda like saying go ahead and give up now because you've wasted all this time on something that will not work. I hope you will stay and give it another chance. I plan to hang around and try for a little longer. Best of luck to you.

I was able to lose 102 lbs before surgery. I started working with a nutritionist at the end of May. She wasn't one to say "ok let's change everything you've been doing all your life". She was about changing things one by one. We called them baby steps. First we changed the fact that I didn't do breakfast and the routine of eating twice a day, later in the day. She insisted on three meals a day and three snacks per day. I did the protein shakes for breakfast, three 100 calorie snacks through out the day, and a balanced lunch and dinner. I tracked all of my meals and snacks on here and I averaged between 1600 and 1900 calories per day. Eating the three meals and three snacks meant that I wasn't starving when it was meal time so I ate less.

And I was eating good tasting, nice sized meals. Salads and frozen diet meals for lunch usualy. For dinner it was usually a salad with some sort of meal made from chicken or low fat beef. I went from ground beef to 93% fat free beef, from rice to brown rice, from pasta to wheat pasta. It was eating all of my normal meals but making substitutions. And I really couldn't tell a difference. As for the sweets the 100 calorie packs and Smart Ones desserts saved me. They are all awesome. Even if I had a "slip up" I'd log it on my food diary. Usually it wasn't as bad as I thought. So even when I thought I'd "blown it" it wasn't as bad as I thought. The food log and exercise log on here definitely kept me on track. So did the body tracker. Seeing that graph line go down was very encouraging.

I have trouble exercising due to a car accident several years ago. Because of my injuries I had to quit working and I gained 200 lbs. The accident caused a lot of back problems an injured knee and ankles and a broken wrist. This has made exercise and walking a big challenge. However I love swimming and can do it pain free. I can't wait for summer. But, in the mean time, I am going to go swimming at a local indoor pool as soon as my incisions heal.

I continue to see my nutritionist every other week. She reviews my food logs and we discuss any changes that may need to be made. I do not own a set of scales. I get weighed when I see her. THis works best for me. I usually have a loss of a few pounds and I am not constantly on the scales obsessing. Ican tell I've lost between visits by the way my clothes fit. I also have small victories like walking further or getting in and out of the tub easier. This week I have ankle bones instead of puffy, swollen ankles. :)

I think for me getting the right people on my team, my nutritionist, my pc Dr., my surgeon and all his staff has been the biggest help. I chose people I am comfortable with. Best of luck to you on your contnued success. You can do it!

***I should also note that it often seems that the heavier you are and the more weight you have to lose, the faster you seem to lose. For people who have less to lose the weight comes off slower. Once I hit a lower weight I think my weight loss will slow down somewhat. But I will not give up. ***

The way to counbter negativity is not to post about the negativity!

Just join in with those of us vets who are trying hard to rise above tit-for-tat posts. We do not get involved in the fights. Every time we see a negative, we post an unrelated postive thread (the Pollyanna approach).

Until i read this thread, i actually had thought it was working! Look back over the recent increase in photo parades, success stories, postive threads! Help us along by posting your own postivies.

As I am about to do! There had clearly been negativity or you would not have posted this. So i am going to post a positive!
