Honestly, I am not sorry at all that I was self-pay.

My insurance does not cover WLS, but my husband's policy does.
If I had been willing to wait (from April - December) and then switch policies, I probably could have had my procedure covered.

I would have had to comply with their Supervised diet protocol - and would probably have had to push my surgery back a year or more from my original date.

I am not sorry that I went ahead and had it done and started my new and healthy life when I did.

My self-payment has strengthened my committment and made me more diligent in sticking with  my doctor's rules ---- if there are problems with this band, I have to self-pay to fix them or remove the band.

BEST money that I have ever spent (my plastic surgery is slowly becoming the 'second best' money I ever spent).

Never mind what we do! You have to stick to what your doc says!

But just to show how different docs can be, I never got my protein from liquids after the first week. I have never had any difficulty getting enough protein in from foods. In fact I never used  bought shakes at all, just made my own high protein smooth soups.

Once you are on solids, you will have to see how it works for you. Chilli is not a solid but for me it has the same effect as any spicy foods  - makes me feel tighter and so has the same filling and hunger deadening effect as solid meat.

Over time you will learn what works for you. But until then, just do exactly as your doc tells you!
