Ignore Misty... she's a fake and a liar.

Doctors make MORE money from banding. All the follow up appts and fills, maintenance.. it earns them more money than sleeves who have surgery and they never see the patient again.

Look, you can CONTINUE to bury your head in the sand and hope to put a band aid on a gunshot wound or you can get your ass into the OR and get a surgery type that works. Least invasive DOES NOT MEAN SAFER! It means less invasive. I can give you rat poison by mouth, that is least invasive. I can cut open your gut and pour in rat poison, that is most invasive. But it is still rat poison. How is least invasive safer? It is not.

For goodness sakes, quit yer whining and sniveling and go get healthy.

WLS gives you your life back. You can do that unsafely with a band short term, or you can damn well do it safely with a sleeve.

The band got me to goal, the sleeve will keep me there.

BTW, there most certainly ARE long term results with the sleeve.

You need to research, and then when you are done do some more research.

I didn't realize you are self pay, that is all the more reason not to go with a band. Bands are verrrrrry expensive long term. You have a 50/50 chance for a 2nd surgery in the first five years and those stats come from the band makers. If you have a lot of cash to burn, get a band. You'll end up with a sleeve eventually but if you want to burn money, by all means... get a band!

I will have to stress what Lisa O says. If it were me in the same situation I would probably go with a sleeve, being self pay. Talk to your surgeon about longer term stats. I know there aren't long term stats for weight loss, and personally know that my grandmother had a similar surgery many years ago and gained all her weight back due to stretching her pouch, but they are using better techniques, now, just as they are with the band. Again, no wls can overcome white carbs, though the DS is the closest, and no surgery will completely overcome overeating, but a sleeve has is good if you are dedicated to the rules. There are fewer later complications than the band, though initial surgical risks are greater. Check out all wls and choose the one you can live with, and afford long term. Good luck in what ever you do. God bless. Sue

When I went in for my consult with Dr. Spivak he was really trying to talk me into RNY because he said I would only lose about 50lbs with the band.  I held my ground... he did the band and I've lost over 150lbs!!!!  At the time he wasn't doing the sleeve yet.  However, I wish he had been!!!  Don't get me wrong... I love my band and it's been very good to me!!!!  But I can't help but feel like it's just a matter of time before something does go wrong.  I have had several people talk to me about having the band and honestly I recommend they look into the sleeve first.

Be frank with your surgeon.  Tell him you don't understand why he thinks you're not a band candidate.  Maybe he has a good reason for it.  If he's a surgeon who normally does the band, then it's not just a band bias.  If he doesn't think it would be a good fit, maybe he can help you understand why the sleeve is better for you.

Don't get me wrong.  I love my band.  I have lost 120 lbs with it, but it's not for everyone.
