How Many CC's Did You Have Put In @ Time of Surgery?

Hi - I had the band put in on 12-30-10 - my surgeon doesn't put anything into the band at time of surgery except I guess on rare occassions, but from reading on this site, it appears that most of you have about 2 cc's at surgery time?  Just wondering why they don't pump it up at all, then you have to follow a four phase food plan when there really isn't any restriction, for 6 weeks before the first fill?  Anyone else had a surgeon that didn't pump it up at surgery time & waited?

Thanks - did you still have to follow a regime to "rebuild" your eating from liquids to solids for about a month?  When did you get your first fill and how much did the surgeon put in the first time (then subsequent if applicable)?  I go for my first fill 2-7 and am curious about what to expect - I was thinking like 4 cc's or is that too aggressive?  Of course, he'll do as he thinks should be done, but I thought I could throw my 2 cents worth in...:)  Thank you!

I did. I had a 5-week post op diet. The first fill was 1cc in a 4cc band.

Sapphire,

My surgeon did not prime my band. I did have to follow the four phase diet and got my first fill of 3.5cc at 6 weeks post op. My surgeon felt that the swelling needed to subside after surgery and that my body needed to heal before a fill was given.

My surgeon also put my band on empty. I still had to follow all of the diet stages and wasn't advanced to "regular foods" until two months after surgery. That was also when he filled me (1cc). So even though I was advanced to regular food the same day, I really hard to wait 6 days because after the fill I was back on liquids for three days and mushies for three more. He's very conservative and will only do 1cc every two months so it may take me a while to reach restriction.

Wow, that is way too conservative!  Another response was 0 @ surgery & 3.5 cc @ first fill - I think 1 cc at a time seems really small - did it make much difference in what you could eat?  Thanks!

It didn't make much of a difference in terms of restriction but I have really adopted this way of eating as a way of life and I am not about to undo all of the progress I've made simply because I can eat more. SO until I get more restriction, it's mostly a mind game for me. But it's a mind game I'm winning! haha
