Lap Band on 08/26/10 with
I had my surgery back in August 2010.  Last night I slept on my stomach and woke up at 1:30am in pain and soooo sore.  I had to put a heating pad on my stomach it hurt so bad. The pain and soreness was where one my little is incisions is located, in the place where the band is and where the big scare is and my belly button.  I had somewhat of this experience before and spoke to my surgeon about it and he stated that it was scare tissue causing pain, but after this morning that is impossible.  It is coming from me sleeping on my stomach.

Has anyone had this issue before way after surgery?

I haven't had that exact issue - I never sleep on my stomach - but my port does bother me from time to time (3-1/2 yrs post-op since my original surgery, 10 mos post-op since my port repair), usually when I overdo a workout. Sometimes it seems to come from nowhere. I think what may be happening is that as we lose weight and fat (both visceral and sub-cutaneous), our ports become more exposed (less protected by all that fat), and our bodies become more sensitive to movement and pressure.

According to several doctors I've spoken to, it's better to put ice on the irritated area. I had been putting a heating pad on a sore spot (not port site) and whining about why wasn't the pain getting better, and these docs all said that while heat may feel more comforting, it's actually increasing the inflammation from the injured tissues.
