I am so sorry to hear your band slipped, my surgeon says that if the slip is small they can unfill the band for 6 weeks and see how it goes, but he says usually with a band slip it cause band damage and the patient's band will never function properly with good restriction without "issues".

My surgeon also says that Lap bands are not that easy to slip at least his patients, he says it takes a lot of vomiting for it to slip, meaning every single day or twice a day, and if you were vomiting that much you should have taken some saline out before this happened to you, anyway I wish you the best.

Hi Misty,
I went to the doctor as soon as this started, had an unfill.

I VERY recently (1/20) found out I had a slip, what the doctor called a "bad" one, I had ONE CC taken out and my band on the same day, I started and stayed on liquids that day (not b/c doctor told me to, but because I felt it would help) my upper GI on the 25th shows my slip has resolved itself!

Doc wants me on liquids and soft foods for the next two weeks and I have to maintain my low level of fill for a month, then we will slowly start filling back VERY small amounts under fluro to make sure that the band is not to tight.

Good luck, I know how you are feeling as I just went though ALL the emotions, heartbreak, anger and frustrations that you did. It was like my world was crashing in on me. If you want to talk, feel free to PM me.

Just noticed that you and OP and myself are all 7/9 surgery dates....

It's worth asking about the total unfill. There are quite a few on OH who had slips, had unfills and the slip corrected itself. JeanM is one of them and her band is fine now. But, of course, it doesn't work like that for all slips!

Best wishes.

Kate

Highest 290, Banded - 248   Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.

Happily banded since May 2006.  Regain of 28lbs 2013-14.  ALL GONE!

But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,

just talked with Dr. Chapman's office.  a total unfill is NOT an option for me because of the location of the band.  a total unfill will not fix the placement where it currently sits.

Personally, I would get a second opinion, if only for the simple fact that you really have nothing to lose at this point since you can't revise it anyway, it would be worth the shot in the dark to me.

Good luck.

Can your Dr. Unfill it as much as possible?  It seems that a revision should be paid for regardless of your BMI if the band slipped and you need surgery anyway.

Good luck

according to my doctor, a total unfill is not an option/fix in my case.
