huge question re: slips and insurance

Just wondering....if my band were to slip right now after being out almost a year and half from surgery, would insurance pay for its repair or its replacement?

Left the band and rocking with RNY.

if your band slips, they usually try to take all of the saline out and see if the band goes into proper placement.  Sometimes they just can't fix them so they have to replace them.  It all depends on your insurance.

If you have WLS benefits they would likely repair it if an unfill did not work. If you do not have WLS benefits they will only remove it if it is an emergency.

Keep in mind, many ins co's are opting for the one WLS in a lifetime policy. If your ins has that then even if they weren't the ones to pay for your surgery they can deny you a revision. they will pay to maintain your band but will not revise you to something else should you need it.

Revision on 08/16/12
My band slip didn't require surgery to fix it, just a complete unfill.

My insurance did pay for my port repair surgery.

I think most insurance companies will pay for revisional surgery that's necessitated by a complication like a slip, erosion, port flip, etc. if they paid for the original surgery.

The best thing to do is call your insurance company's customer service department and ask. Then you won't have this fear hanging over you and using up energy that could be better spent on something else.
