Newbie with Question
Hi, I'm new to the board. I have a question. I was banded 11/09 and I've lost only 40 lbs. Typical me, I've been on every diet known to man before WLS, get to the 30-40lb WL range and then seem to get stuck. I went 5 mos without gaining or losing, same exact weight. It's very discouraging. Anyway, my question is...Is it alright to take fat burners with the band, such as Hydroxycut, etc?
Other than being disappointed that I'm not losing while exercising and eating right, I have no problems with the band. I greatly appreciate any advice you guys can give. Thank you all very much!

I can understand your frustration! But, on the plus side, you didn't gain, so you are still ahead of the game. Sounds like it's time to try something different. First, check with your doctor, and see what he recommends. Then, take a good look at what you've been doing for the past five months, and find something that you can change. Personally, I didn't exercise at all the first four months after getting the band. I was losing great, so kept putting it off. Then came the holidays and a bit of a stall. My doctor gave me a fill, but told me that I had to get moving, too. I joined a gym and got going, and the weight started dropping again. Only you can know what your routine and diet is, and what you can adjust. Right now, I could probably do better if I just backed away from the computer a bit!
As for the pills, ask your doc!

Hi, I'm new to the board too. I had my lap band done 3/10 and have only lost 12pounds. I know how discouraging it can be. I have gotten more answers on this board than at my support group meetings. That said I agree with Tami. Pleasssse check with your doctor before taking anything. Take Care and stay positive.

When is the last time you saw your surgeon? What is your restriction level? Are you in the green zone? Or are you tight and eating sliders or too loose?
Have you journalled your food and looked at your breakdown of what you are eating?
How about posting a few days worth of your food on here and see if you can get some helpful suggestions?
Are you drinking 64 oz of water a day? Or are you getting calories in drinks?
What amount of protein are you getting?
It really does come down to calories in versus what we burn. So you must be getting too many calories?
My answer regarding the hydroxycut is NO, don't take it.

I visited my dr last month and got my fourth fill. I had surgery in FL and two months later, my husband (he's military) PCS'd to CO. It took 3 mos from the time we got to CO to get in to see my PCP and then a few weeks after that to get a referral to a Bariatric dr. When I finally got in, because he didn't do the surgery, I had to get a upper GI before he would do a fill. When I finally got the appt for my second fill, I was 6 mos out from my surgery. He couldn't do the fill because I had a flipped port (only prob with the band), had surgery to fix the port and then finally got my second fill. that was in June. I had another fill in July and then my last fill was done in Dec. So a far as restriction, I'm very satisfied, eat less than a cup of food, have at least 3 oz of protein with each meal. I eat 800-1000 cals a day, drink at least 3-1 liter bottles of water a day, exercise 30 mins-1hr a day 5 days a week. I do some weight training, also, so maybe that's why I'm not dropping weight, since muscle is heavier than fat.
When I visited my dr, told him what was going on, talked with the nutritionist and took my journal in with me. They said I seem to be doing everything right. I told them that this is pretty common for me. I don't know what it is, but every diet I've been on, I'd lose 30-40 lbs and that would be all I could get off. It's just very discouraging and heartbreaking. I just don't know what else to do or could possibly do. I can see a slight physical change, but no change at the scale. I'm thankful I haven't gained, at least that's somewhat of a plus. Any advice is greatly appreciated! Thank you so much!
