I wasnt shocked at much and I thought it made since. Being in the medical field myself I can kind of understand why the numbers fell like they did.

I think it would be intersting to see what surgery the surgeons have actually gotten. Wonder if there are any stats on that? I haven't seen it if there is.

I know of one surgeon that had the Lapband done. I only know two surgeons personally.

I just know one that has WLS and it's RNY, and if I'm not mistaken I think one of his kids has it as well.

It would make an interesting poll though of what the surgeons really get.

Yes and No, it would be something fun to know. But for me I don't think it would make a difference really. Not to repeat myself, but since I do work in the medical field, I don't see surgeon or doctors any different to the next person. I guess its because I either know what they know or I can figure it out easily by either research or asking or already knowing it. Truly understand is the big difference for someone that doesn't have medical knowledge it would be hard to understand. It would be like someone asking me legal advice, sorry cant tell ya anything, I couldn't even begin to guess and I wouldn't even begin to understand a conversation between two lawyers. So I agree that it would be nice to know, but I like to pick peoples brains about anything that has to do with health care, medical history. The worst thing that could happen to me is be in a room full of scared up and broken people. I want to know what happened and how they were treated and how well it worked for them, and if they have any permented damage, and....and....and....

Maria:
This article doesn't surprise me one bit. The reason is that my surgeon seemed to favor the RNY. However, since my BMI was only around 38 he agreed that the band would work for me. I think the band  is a definite commitment and you must play by the rules. This is the trade off for keeping your intestines intact and a quicker recovery.
If I had diabetes, I may have considered the RNY, only because diabetes is immediately cured with the RNY.

I have made my decision and I am happy with it.

I started this journey with the band as  a TOOL to weight loss. I am committed and will follow the "RULES" in order to meet my goals.

Yes, I have hunger and I need to exercise, but even the small weight loss that I have now is far better than no weight loss, which is my alternative....

Good luck to everyone!!!

Well that's just it, it's always described as "a tool". And that is what is should be. However for some of us.............there is no "tool" at all! It would be like trying to fix a pipe leak with a broken wrench (tool)................it's just NOT gonna work! :-(

For those of u that actually do have a tool to work with, I'm very happy for u. But for some of us...........it's just like before I had the surgery.............NO tool!
