I had revision surgery on Jan 10Th, I had the lap band over bypass and have been on just liquids for 5 days now. I came home and the scale said I actually gained 3 lbs? How is this possible? I still haven't lost anything. Has anyone out there had the same experience? Also, I am still in some pain, how long does it last? I am supposed to return to work on Tuesday. Any advise???

hi ya.. i'm a BOB too!!!! OK, I had the same experience. Post-Op water retention is very normal (and expected), and your body will expel the water as your body heals. Aside from your bod hanging onto water immedietly post op, if you were given fluids in the hospital, the body often hangs onto that, too. Just keep drinking water and I PROMISE it will fall off before you know it. Good luck and congratulations!!!

I had a RYN and I gained weight after the surgery. It was frustrating... considering I was only on liquids, i thought I would lose. I was told that everyone's body acts differently and some people's body retains the fluids-- due to the truma of the surgery, As soon as I quit worrying about it... i lost weight.
Congrats and Lots' of luck!

Yep... I gained 10 lbs post op, but after a few days, about a week or so, I began to lose about 1 lb a day. Lost 12 lbs so far, and now I'm stuck again, but gotta watch the fiber intact to make sure things are moving...
Clothes fit great now..

Good luck!

Wow, thanks everyone for your posts... I feel better knowing that everything is normal... Jaxmom, I would love to talk to you further about your experience with your BOB, I don't know many out there that are BOBers.  I would appreciate hearing how things are going with you?

Hi I am a Bober too! I had my surgery on 12-30 and was sore for about a week but went back to work on tues the 4th. I am two weeks + four days out down 14.5 lbs...i checked my weight Friday wjen I began phs 2 weighed today didnt lose an ounce in four days! I am trying to keep calories down and protein up...i would like to talk to bobbers too...email me [email protected]. Good luck hang in there...we'll get there again...did u have the bob due to your stoma stretching? Thats what my surgeon said was the issue so he felt the band could get me back on track by proving restriction & fullness once again so back to the basics no drinking before during or after eating once I start phs 3 next monday!

I didn't lose a thing for a while except the fluid weight. Some do some don't. This is a different surgery so don't expect your band to do one thing for you for quite a while, yet. Any weight you lose will be your own doing, until you have had enough fills to have your tool working optimally. It is a slow go, but if you work hard it will happen, eventually. There are rare people who never lose, but they are rare, as I said.

Good luck, Sue
