Wish people would stop hating on the band
Melonie...
Your surgeon is a liar!!!!!! HAHAHAHA And you believed it. Slips are not typically the fault of the surgeon so he has NONONO control over this.
Damn straight I post here, I DO want newbies to know the truth in banding and I call BS on not posting my facts and stats. I have done so hundreds of times, they come from the band makers own website as well as the ASMBS stance on banding.
Look, ins co's are changing their policies. They are opting for one WLS in a lifetime. All these banders... most of these banders will be self pay for their revision. I do not want that, perhaps you do.
Not gonna happen, I will NOT stay away and you don't get to make the rules around here. The board owners do. I am not going anywhere.
Being ignorant is elementary school. The rest of us learned how to research in middle school.

you know what? your an ass and i dont care if i get boosted off for that comment. you were fat too just like the rest of us. it doesnt mater how you lost the wt or how your keeping it off we're all on the same boat here and you should be nothing but positive!!!! in all reality i think you choose the easy way out. these surgeries are a tool to lose wt not the solution and it just so happens with the band you have to work harder to get there. if your soooo completely happy with your sleeve then stop snoopping around the lapband forums. we do not need you here to put us down. that probably why you were over weight in the first place. eating and making others feel bad is your only form of hapiness. go get a life....
Do u see this Nicole? This is a post someone made tonight about the band. on this forum. Her band worked for her also...............INITIALLY! She hasn't even had it 2 yrs. and she already needs a revision b/c of 2 slips!!!
I see ppl on this forum all the time saying how well their band works and how much they love it. And then................they're posting that they have to have a 2nd surgery!
I think u should do some more research! Because there will always be ppl on here "hating on the band"...............AS LONG AS THERE IS SOMETHING TO HATE! If it worked as well as u think it does...............would all these ppl post on here about all these band problems?!?!?!

I chose my band because it was the only WLS that wouldn't rearrange my insides and was reversible. What I didn't realize is that no WLS is reversible. The band works by forming scar tissue around it so for a surgeon to remove it, they would have to remove the scar tissue with it, which is usually attached to part of your stomach.
My band got 90% of my excess weight of, but two slips later, I've made the choice to have it removed and revise to the sleeve. It was a lot of fill/unfills, a lot of stuck episodes where I couldn't swallow my own saliva and to this day, even with no fluid in my band and no restriction, I still can't swallow a capsule or a pill larger than a Sudafed.
I won't knock the band, it works for some people, but if you don't want it then don't get it...save yourself the aggrevation because slow weight loss will be the least of your problems.
Good luck with whatever you decide.
Hey that was my post! But sorry Maria, I've had it almost 3 years.
Unfortunately I was once on a band high and didn't want to hear any of the negatives either. Some band slips are due to surgeon error...one of the posters here who is a very good friend of mine had that happen. Some are user error...they binge and purge. Some are just the nature of the band. I don't think the band was meant to last forever, even my surgeon who has the band himself has told me more than half his patients have had their bands repaired for one reason or the next, but he still believes in the band. That's his choice and it's valid. I've made mine and it is also valid.
There is nothing wrong with people coming here and letting others know their experience with their bands, good or bad. What makes me nuts is people who post misinformation, people who use more than one identity (and I won't name them because I'm in no mood to start ****), and those who just come here to cause trouble. When people come here asking for advice on whether or not they should have the band, sleeve or RNY and they're confused, they need to hear from people several years out. Bette and Kate have had great experiences, even with their problems (and I've met Bette in person, she's awesome!), but the newbies who have been banded 2 months and LOVE their band and think it can do no wrong aren't helping people make a decision because they haven't yet experienced the good, bad and indifferent of what the band really is.
Just my two cents, take it for what it's worth.
