Why is everyone picking on me - The truth
VSG on 07/10/12
LOL so I'm not crazy, I received an email notification of that post but could never find it - talk about childish - I'm gonna post to tell you to go away and then run and hide and block you so you can't respond to me. Go ahead and report any of my posts - as they don't violate TOS nothing will happen to them. I'm not the one puffing myself up, talking loudly, and calling names in hopes of scaring people away. So Jr High!
Wonder if I should "copy and paste" the TOS for those who didn't research this site enough and actually read them?

Yup, due to the damage done to my stomach from the band the top of my sleeve is larger than a virgin sleeve thus diminished restriction. Not to mention that there are studies that show revision surgery will never give as good a result as a virgin surgery - just another down side of choosing the band first.
If I had the sleeve done first it would be nice and tight, we wouldn't have had to worry about all of the scar tissue causing a leak.
Restriction isn't the issue so much and I quote
"VSG has done what it should - when I eat a proper meal - lean protein, veggie, some whole grain starch - my portion is very reasonable. I can eat all foods, no stuck, PB or slimming, which is very nice - I just get full, also very nice. Snacking is the issue and so far all of my snacking has been done because I WANTED something, not due to hunger. Our German distributor at work sends the most delicious German Gingerbread every year - guess who made up for the last five years in one week??? I've been nibbling here and gulping there."
I have no real hunger to speak of unless I go longer than five hours without eating. I have restriction with solid protein and veggies - I've just fallen into the bad habit of snacking (and indulging in foods I haven't been able to eat in the past five years). Same issues all WLS have to work on in one way or another. But thanks for your concern.

I am truly sorry for the problems you had with the band, and wish you the best with the sleeve and WW.
I am not one of those pro-band, anti-any other surgery kind of people. The band worked for me, but when people ask me my opinion about weight loss surgery, I tell them to check out the sleeve, too. But, I wonder why you come to this board with a very anti-band vibe when you've only had the sleeve for a few months. How do you know that you won't end up hating the sleeve as much as the band? What if you get sick of tossing back handfuls of vitamins everyday, or have nutritional deficiencies because of reduced stomach acid not allowing nutrients to be absorbed correctly? (These are not assumptions, but from info posted on your blog.) Don't get me wrong...I am not bashing the sleeve...I am just saying you don't know, because you haven't lived with it long enough!

I've never claimed the sleeve was the right surgery for anyone - I think for restrictive only its a better choice than band in the long run. Fewer long term complications, with the sleeve most of the issue occur immediately post op or in the first three months.
The vitamins I take now are other than the A, E, ZINC and Mag Citrate are the same ones (different brands) that I took with the band. Preop I was deficient in B12. After a year or two with the band I was deficient in D and my iron has always been on the low side. So band, sleeve or no surgery, for good health I would be taking pretty much the same thing.
I have an anti band vibe because it does damage, to a lot of people....do you read all of the boards - their are new people posting daily on the band and revision forums about the complications that start for some right away for others at year 2, 3 and up. If someone asks "what is your opinion of the band - I'm going to tell them what I think & what studies show" (studies from web site of the band manufacturer - come on if there were better studies don't you think they would have posted them?)
Its not band bashing - its providing facts and my personal story to those who ask for it. Can I control the fact that newbie bansters feel threatened by this information. No, if they are comfortable with their choice then they should remain comfortable. If they did their research and evaluated all of the pro's and con's for their lifestyle and all of the surgery choices available then they should skip over my posts and enjoy their lives. Its really simple.
As far as how the VSG will turn out, well I'm going to reserve judgment on that. So far so good in some aspects, but I though that about the band for a few years to. I can say its much easier to live with in terms of food issues and my worries about long term complications are zero at this point. If I was still trying to work my band I'd live in fear that a serious slip would occur strangulating my stomach and requiring an emergency gastrectomy or permanent esophageal damage would occur - I wasn't comfortable with that looming over me.
but now I have to go to bed - the Y opens at 5:30 am and I don't want to have to fight new years resolution people to get a treadmill. Good night.

I'm confused Lynn...I've never seen you SHOVE your opinion down anyone's throat, I've never seen you call the band evil incarnate and I've never seen you call someone stupid for getting the band. So why would someone pick on you for giving your opinion, stating studies and facts and explaining what you went through with your band and revision?
I've been here for years, and I'll be here for years to come, whether or not my band is removed. I had a band for almost 3 years and was really successful with it and will continue to post my experiences with it...the good, bad and ugly. People who are researching which WLS to have should get all the facts as well as other people's experiences. And when someone posts here asking for opinions on different WLS, good and bad, why are people surprised to hear that not everyone's in love with the band? And it's mainly the newbies...and I say that because I was a newbie who was in love with my band.
Lynn, you have been through a hellish experience and I think people researching the band need to hear about it, so I hope you keep posting. I for one plan to keep posting about my experiences, both good and bad.
