Has anyone started back drinking with straws?  I have not been near one since my surgery about 3 weeks ago.

I use a straw now but te first 8-10months when I did it bothered me. I am carefully to make sure I only take small sips with a straw.

I was told to quit using straws.  I started using them about a week ago.  Have not had any problems.

I was also sipping from my glass or water bottles such tiny amounts, so afraid I might get too much water at one time.  Girl, I'm taking big drinks now.  Not gulping, but a drink big enough I know I've got some liquid in my mouth!  Making it so much easier to get my liquids in now.

I was told no straws. You take in too much air when you use one which gets trapped and it's way too painful.

I asked the same question not too long ago.  I started using one during our vacation without thinking and never had a problem.  I am 3 months out and never used a straw before then.  I use them most of the time now, I drink more with a straw so that is good, more fluids!

I wasn't told to never use a straw, but that a straw could create more air in our stomachs.  I'm going to have to ask the doc again when I see him to see what he says now.

My doctor told me that a straw could lead to air/gas problems.  I've been using one for the past 5 days and just take small amounts and no problems.

Hi there!  I don't know whether I was told or I just read/heard not to use one.  That was not an option for me.  Using straws & chewing gum are both necessary for me.  I'm a responsible sucker & chewer.  I don't swallow air.
