I agree with your mother! I went to school and worked full time for 10 years to get my Master's while raising two teenage girls......I just kept getting fatter because I did not have time to take care of myself....oh how I wish I had my band back then! LOL! But when I started to college I probably wouldn't have qualified if it had bee approved in the US.......

BUT I DEFINITELY UNDERSTAND THE STRESS!

Hi, it took me 3 years to lose 117-120 pounds. I'm still a type 2 diabetic and am 58 years old. I lost weight slowly because I ate sensibly but not always the way bandsters should eat. Regardless, I was able to live my life and make permanent food and life styles changes habits rather than a diet short term thing.

First of all you owe NO ONE an explanation of how quickly or slowly you're losing. So long as you are going in the right direction who cares! If pushed you can always say you have additional health concerns that still make weight losing a challenge. Remember the longer you take, the more the changes you're making become habits rather than a flash in the pan action!

Diana,

Thanks for telling me about your experience. Mom says that by me losing the weight slowly I should not develop too much extra sagging skin. So that is the encouraging thought for me. I am at 10.75 ccs in my 11cc band. Some days I can hardly eat anything and then there are days I can eat large amounts.

It is a fickled thing.

I am on a plan to lose just about that slow on purpose. Sometimes I wish I could be down 100 right now too, but then I remember why I and my surgeon and his team build my plan this way. At the end of 2 years the plan is to be down 75lbs.

I get comments once in a while, but not very often. Most people that aren't familiar with the band seem to think it will make you skinny overnight like some miracle.  Those of us with bands know better. I just figure that those that question me don't have any knowledge of my medical procedure or doctor's plan and it's really none of their business.

You don't owe ANYONE an explanation about your weight loss, EVER.  What you've accomplished with your medical conditions, and school and work is tremendous. You should be really proud of yourself!

Trixie,

Thanks for the encouragement. I tend to forget that I put my body through so much in this 1.8 months that I just feel irritated. I started working on my MBA two months after having WLS. I have been going like the energizer bunny!!!

My body is probably pissed off with me because I have yet to slow down and rest. I was trying to do homework after getting out a 4 day stay in the hospital from my gallbladder rupture AND I STILL MADE AN "A" in the class.

What type of plan are you on? I am going to have to check out your blog.

Thanks

D
