I AM BANDED NOW.........FEEL GREAT!!!!!!!!
I am now sitting on the loser's bench, ya'll and it feels great!!!!!. Had my surgery 2 days ago and with a minor overnite stay in the hospital I am already back at work, albeit not hard work but back on the job.
All went well untill they actually got inside and they found a " huge hiatel hernia " ( by my doctor's terms ) and of course had to fix it. He described it as him having to pull a fairly good portion of my stomach down from my chest cavity and make a fairly decent repair of the diaphragm. He continued with the banding only after he was sure that my stomach would not EVER herniate again and secured even more than it was supposed to be in it's normal position. The banding was easy after that. He told me that he knew I would be in more pain than usual so he was at my bedside when I woke up and was the first one I saw as I was bellowing and thrashing in pain. He had the meds ready but the Demerol was not enough and after waiting an hour with no relief ( 100 mgs ) he gave me Morphine to deal with the pain. The morphine did the trick and that is why I had to stay overnight. By the next morning I was feeling OK, just more discomfort than pain most likely from the swelling. He was there from the beginning and kept excellant "tabs" on me through the night and I thought that was the best bedside manner I had ever experienced from a doctor and his team. I will forever HIGHLY RECOMMEND Dr. Davenport and his bariatric team here in Odessa, Texas.
I am slower at any kind of motion ( imagine that!!) but I feel terrific. I want to express my thanks to all of you that have extended advice and support to me on this journey. It has really helped and I know it will continue to help in my future endeavors in eating habits, etc.
Thanks to all of you, you are all a BLESSING FROM GOD!!!
Mike
i used to live down the road from ya in Midland and then San Angelo for several years. I too am newly banded and know how you are feeling. It's Grrrrrreat, isnt it? I'm so happy to be part of such a nice club.
I was very happy withmy doctor, too., here in the north Houston area. He made sure i didnt have any questions and really took his time with me. He and his staff are very consciencious and concerned about doing the best possible job for me, making sure I understood what was going on each step of the way. I have not had a single issue with my band and feel so excited about finally succeeding in releasing this extra person ive been carrying around for the past 24 years.
Blessings to you and all the rest of ya'll here.
