Stuck in an exercise rut

Well, I can relate.  I do best when I turn on the Exercise on Demand for an hour in the morning because if I don't have time in the afternoon and/or evening I know that I have an hour in for the day. My husband and I also just bought bicycles and are now riding together.  We have found some safe bike trails and it is nice to be out in the fresh air.  However, I am still very nervous and shakey on the bike.  I will continue to ride and hopefully become more self assured and confident. Life is good.

It sure is good C'ING LESS OF ME!

We could learn a lot from crayons:
some are sharp, some are pretty,
some are dull, some have weird names,
& all are different colors....but they

ALL exist very nicely in the same box.

Exercise is one thing I really love!! I usually exercise 6 times a week and I also do some activities just for fun....that others would probably classify as exercise.

I think that is the best way to keep doing exercise....make it fun!  Do things you like!  Sometimes you don't even realize it is something you like until you try it!!

Try new things.

My problem is I can not find all the time that I would love to have in sxercising. When I do find the time I try and do it all in one day, I'm then finding that I'm not really doing myself any good in doing it like this.

I really need to stick to some kind of routine, I'm going on 4 years post op. But I'm still holding.

Thanks
Jeannie

Getting into an exercise rut is as easy as getting into a food rut. We all have those foods that are easy to eat and don’t bother us, so we eat them too often. This causes “food boredom" and can lead to eating the wrong foods to compensate for the boredom. With exercise, doing the same workout day after day, also leads to boredom and might lead to your stopping your workouts altogether.

I alternate my workouts between walking, running, bike riding and cardio/weight training at the gym. I try not to do the same workout 2 days in a row and I even vary the time and intensity of the workout from day to day. This really helps in stopping from becoming stuck in a rut.

Also I have found that exercising with a friend or two every once in a while is great for mixing things up and keeping your routine fre**** also is a great way to motivate yourself.

I am so happy that the weather is warmer, snow is melted and I can get outdoors with the dogs. We walk all over town, finding the trails, different streets and even some hills. I dread going out some days to get in the walks, but after 10-15 minutes, my brain is into the activity and I can just go, go, go. Breaking up the routine by including some race/walking speed and some slower speeds. I do best if I get in the exercise shortly after getting up from sleep, before I have found multiple excuses to not go move my bod. I have a Wii, exercise CD's, but still gravitate towards the great outdoors whenever possible. Spend time enjoying the sights and sounds of nature, look to spy the bird making the interesting noise.

When I go to the gym, due to less favorable weather, headphones and some peppy music, or having my kindle read a good bood to me keeps my brain busy and I forget the time passing. That rush from endorphins after exercising is worth the effort.

Yes!  I have had a terrible time getting and staying motivated in an exercising routine.  I am 3 1/2 yrs out and have lost 110 lbs.  I think I have just felt so much better and look so much better that I am just satisfied with the status quo.  I know I would feel better and maybe even lose a little more weight, but...I need some motivation too!!

I have not had a "rut" yet, my issue is finding the energy to just do it!

I was fortunate enough to have a great Mentor here 5 years ago.  I had gotten stuck at a certain weight and she said... “Natalie ... changes up your routine. Your body becomes accustomed to what you are doing to it and it will not budge one ounce of fat. So I went from walking. To cardio, from cardio to weight training... and guess what.. The weight started falling off again. So she was right.
So glad I found her when I did .., I was about to lose it.
So I teach that now in my mentoring ... Pass it along I say...

Always,
Tink

What has helped me get back into a daily routine is start small, I usually start by talking long walks like a 2-3 mile walk per day and then work my way up to the treadmill, my goal is run at high tensity on the tread mill for about 1 hour and then mix up my routine with weights....good luck
