Daughters port coming through skin

My daughter got her lapband in 2006. About a year later she had to get a port replacement. Right after her son was born in May 09 she started having pain around her port area. Then the skin started getting discolored around the port area.
She is a Dr assisant to a Surgical Dr here in Gainesviile, where they happen to have a Bariatric Dr there. She went to him when she first started having problems and he thought the band might be eroded. After doing some test he determined it the port.
She had her surgery by Dr Titus Duncan in Atlanta.
This week you could actually see the ring part of the port right inside her skin. She went into surgery today to have it removed. She had the surgeon from her office to do the surgery since she has had so many problems from the past with her band.
The Dr came out to talk to us and was upset. Her port had not been stitched to anything, it was just free floating and about to break through her skin.
He took her complete band and port out and fixed what she has been calling her second belly button. He fix that area that has been damaged.
I was just wondering if anyone else has seen or heard of this happening?
Me and her both were banded within a month of each other but with different Drs.

I have not heard of anyone having the port from the band come through the skin but my husband has a port for his medicine and it has came through the skin twice and been replaced so this can happen if it is to close the the skin.

Hope your daughter is doing better and hopefully they have this issue fixed now, I know this is frustrating.

Yep - My port has flipped and my surgeon told Kaiser that was one of the risks (coming through the skin) if I don't get it fixed. So it's being replaced with a low profile port a week from Monday.

There is a man on the MD board whose port came through his skin.  He also posted graphic pictures to show what it looked liked.  He had difficulty getting it covered by insurance to have the band and port removed.  He went through a lot before it was removed this year.  I'm sorry I don't remember his name, but I'm sure a search for the subject will bring up his postings.

How is your daughter doing now?

It is the Maryland Board.  His username is Renegadebkr.  Let me know if you still have trouble finding it.

This has got to be a scary thing to go through, I hope your daughter is on the mend and feeling better.

That is a constant fear of mine as I go along and lose the weight in my belly bc the more weight you lose in that area, the more you can feel the port. Certain exercises that require me to lay on my stomach are already somewhat difficult bc I can feel the port more now. I guess this is something that will always be an issue for the rest of my life. Scary but necessary I suppose. I wish your daughter well and please keep us posted regarding her healing process.

Left the band and rocking with RNY.
