MRI with realize band

I am supposed to have an MRI of the brain sat and i was wondering if anyone has info on whether or not it is safe to have an mri with the port clamps. I know it is not on my abdomen but just checking to be sure- also posted on the realize forum. Thanks!

We have a statement with in my info that the lap band is MRI safe.  You can  call your surgeon to make sure.  My surgeon said they are the same "but different"..

An MRI magnet is poweful enough to suck a wheelchair in from across the room.  So if something were in your abdomen, not your head...it wouldn't matter.  It could be in your feet and still not be safe. 

But as far as I know...bands have no metal parts.  Check with your surgeon to be sure.  Everyone one of us could tell you it's ok, but It's you who is going for the procedure.  Protect yourself and your band and be absolutely sure.

BTW...I hope your brain is ok.  Good luck, I will say a prayer for you.  It sounds scary.

I have MS, so when I had my MRI this year, I mentioned my lap band.  They said no problem.   Mine isn't a Realize, but I would think you'd be fine.  Just mention it when you go to have the MRI.  Just curious; are they checking you for MS?

Because i have MS I have to get MRI's Yearly and that was the 1st question I asked. I was told that they were absolutley fine.

I have the lap band, not realize band. I had an MRI a few months ago without any problems. I did tell them before the appointment and they checked with my dr who said it was okay.
