Should I pay this ticket or fight it?

I want to know why the officer's testimony would be deemed more credible than a citizen's.  Especially if the citizen has no criminal record.

Unfortunately, it is the nature of the system. The court, without any eveidence to show the contrary in impeaching the credibility of the officer, assumes the officer, under his sworn dudty to defend the constitution and the laws of the state, will tell the truth. If his allegations are denied it becomes a he said/she said and the officer wins.

Sad, but true. Makes my blood boil, but unfortunatley not much anyone can do about it.

An officer is not more credible simply by virtue of being an officer.  If someone admits to that feeling in a jury voir dire, he's struck for cause.  So, why should it be acceptable for a judge to weigh credibility in this way?

Voir dire questions would eliminate a witness who said that, however, in misdemeanor trials, a person is not entitled to a jury and it is a bench trial.

I got a ticket on the eastern shore on my way to Salusibury MD too. He gave me a ticket for 85 in a 55 mph zone. it was 4am and he didn't care to hear that I was on my way to the hopslital where my dad was having open heart surgery.
I got the 290.00 fine and 5 points.
I have not had a ticket in over 12 yrs, So I took it to court.
Well little did I know, it was the good ole boys club on the eastern shore!
I sat and listened as each one that was a local residents of the eastern shore got probation before judgement. and they all had several tickets some as recent as the month before.
I thought well with my driving record he will do the same for me the way he is letting all these people off.
well when I got called up for my turn,  I told the judge my story and also my dad had open heart surgery that friday and my husband had major surgery for that monday and I was pretty stressed. He reduced my fine to 110.00. but kept the points.
Best advice take a Lawyer with  ya. preferably one from the area so he is already part of the good ole boys club.
And beware in DE 1 mile over the limit they ticket. That is how they make their state money. My dad lives there ad I learned that real quick.
Good luck I pray you beat the good ole boy's club on the shore grrrrrr!

Thanks for your response!!! Wow sorry to hear that, yea even the police officer told me that if I went to court the judge would probably reduce the fine, but I don't want any points. Someone else mentioned that if you don't live in the same state which you given a ticket you don''t get points, but I need to find out for sure. Yep you are right it is a way for the court to get revenue and it is VERY SAD...when they should be trying to catch real criminals.....if they stopped everyone for going over the speed limit, hell everyone would be pulled over every day!!!
