OT: Lunchtime baby bird update (with pictures!)
So I popped home at lunch to check on him and is is clear that mama bird is feeding him well because he is a POOP FACTORY! So much for waiting until tonight to change is nesting material. I went ahead and changed it out and took pics. Mom resumed feeding him as soon as I left!
As you can see, lots of poop:

Mostly because he's a baby. The bright yellow "Flanges" are basically a big "Put food here" sign. He'll look like this when he grows up: http://www.english-country-garden.com/birds/starling.htm

He is precious....
I remember when we had a bird build a nest in my wreath that was hanging on our front door one year. We had the best time watching them grow up. I still have the wreath with the nest! I couldn't buy a better nest than the one that mother nature creates!
You will enjoy watching him grow and go thru all the stages of learning to fly.

Well we don't use our front door that often...but the little that we did open it for people or to come and go didn't seem to bother them. The mother would fly away most times...but the babies where fine with it.
I always envisioned the birds flying in the house when you opened the door but they never did.
Our main door is our garage and back door ....and of course when we realized there was a bird nest we told everyone not to go to the front door....to try to keep as little action as possible around the front door.

A face only a mother could love. LOL What a cutie anyway. My neighbor and I tried to take care of baby birds, a few actually fell and died. They were too young to fly and we managed to save one. We took it to an amimal shelter where they knew a little more about caring for them. They were so tiny. Your a nice mommy bird to take care of them.
