thanks for your wisdom.  i just get nervous cause i have a lot of pressure coming from about 4 different ways.  my dad is NOT supportive of the surgery.  he is terrified of it actually.  we lost my mom last year and he says to lose me would be to lose him too.. and  i quote "they might as well dig two holes in greenwood for you and me."  my grandmother wants this for me but she wants a surgery of her own and anytime she gets the opportunity to talk to a weight loss surgeon...the focus goes to her.   my aunt thinks i can't do it and that it will be a miserable failure.   and my brother is quite mum about it.    however, my sister and my grandpa are pretty optimistic.

i realize that katrina took the wind out the sails for a lot of people in la, not only for wls..but for any medical procedure.  i'm friends with the last girl who got gastric bypass on medicaid.  right after katrina.  she said her surgery was in such a rush that she didn't even get to do the 2 week liquid diet prior to her surgery.  but she is a miracle in herself.    i remember when she couldn't hardly drive a car because she couldn't fit behind the steering wheel and now she is thriving.  she's not stick skinny...but she is healthy and happy and CONFIDENT!  (big change from before!)  this whole process is trying she told me.  but in the end it is worth it.  now if i can shut off the negativity and nay-saying and the "no no no"in my own head!  and just focus on march!

on a sad note tho'  for those *****ad my doggie posts.  my lil' peanut went to a new home today and i'm sad about that.  i miss him already..the little pest!

Just a point of reference about this site. My doctors have performed about 600 weight loss surgeries since 2002. About 10 of those patients are actively posting here. I love OH, but it's not to be used as the only indicator of a surgeon's body of work. Many surgeons have no patients here.

It does eventually come down to faith, trust in abilities and how bad you want it. The three of four of you in the process with Dr. Steeb are really a part of a very small patient group. It's the nature of the industry, Medicaid and the presence economy. Before Katrina, there were doctors doing mostly Medicaid wls cases. Now, there are none. There are even fewer surgeons who just doing weight loss surgery in Louisiana.

I'm delighted to see a couple of doctors taking Medicaid cases again. The lack of feedback and testimonials you see is a reflection of what has happened since 2005. It will eventually pick back up again.

Try hard to get and stay positive. It might get tough for a hot second and a positive outlook is golden in times like those.

Onward!

i mean with dr steeb.  i can't seem to find anything, anywhere about anyone who has had surgery with him except larry t.  and he is not posting much anymore.  i would love it if he did.    you guys have to forgive me for my negative personality.  i'm murphy's law personified.  what can go wrong will.  i swear. ....if there is a screw or a nail in the ditch across a vast stretch of water...it will sprout wings and jump into my tire.    that's just how my karma rolls i guess.   i guess everything just seems too good to be true and my overactive..overanalytical mind enjoys throwing up red flags for me to worry about.  i guess i will only be satisfied once i am wheeled out of university hospital and loaded into my dad's truck for the 4 hour trip back home.    even then...i worry about bumps in the road.    could possibly explain why i have hypertension huh?

Topic: Shreveport LA. Anybody use Dr. Barnes (Husband and wife)
Hello everybody!

I am a newbie!!!  I am having RNY at the end of December with Dr. Barnes in Shreveport.  I have been considering the surgery for several years now, and have finally decited to do it!  I am completely excited, but so emotional as well...  I am a single mommy of a 2 year old, and I know that I need to not only do this for myself, but for my daughter, so that I will be around for her, to watch her grow up, and be there for her.

I have read LOTS of sites information, and think I know what to expect, and have read lots of reviews on Dr. Barnes, but I wanted to see what you thought of them 1st hand?  I have had nothing but a WONDERFUL experence so far.  They have all been so nice and caring!

Any advice will be welcome as well...

Thanks for reading, and hope everbody has a blessed weekend!!!

how about this snow huh?  refreshing for a lost soul like me.  just got a message on facebook about a little boy in a home in lafayette....and all he wants for christmas is a window fan.     puts things into perspective.    how freaking stupid and selfish am i.    when there are babies out there who just want something so simple.....and so selfless for christmas.   God help me for being such a selfish and dumb human.  God help this little boy to get his fan.  God help us all to get what we wish for.   Clarity in snowfall and Trevis Thomas (the boy who wanted a fan)

Good luck to all of us.  The road is long.  May we all get what we dream of.
