My daughter was on topamax she is only 9 and they took her off of it cause she is so young. we have had mirgranes for the last 4 yrs and its awful she gets up and vomiting for hours on hours before we can get rid of it.... We are controlling them with the food she eats now we had to go to New orleans for her MANY of times in the past year to get her to this point.  where she can get up and go to school and enjoy her days.

I am an 8 year post op by pass patient living in Metairie.  The best advice I can give is to learn how to eat and exercise in the beginning and take advantage of changing your LIFESTYLE.  I cheat on special occassins:  birthday, holidays, but stay on target to keep the weight off.  Good luck all, janbdiver

daboink, I've taken topomax before. It works in preventing headaches which is why I was taking it. I had to stop because of the side affects it caused me. I had involuntary muscle movement, felt weird, caused marked drowsiness and memory loss. I was told that the side affects would subside after about 3weeks but I couldn't make it that long. also hair loss is a side affect but alot of people take it and get adjusted and do lose lots of weight. let me know how that works for you.

i have been seing a neurologist.  he thinks i am having absent seizures.  he put me on a pill called topamax.  from what i have read on the net.  topamax is an anticonvulsant...but it also helps wiht migraines (i have silent migraines...the aura....but no headache)  and it helps decrease bmi and systolic and diastolic measures....it also decreases alcoholic cravings.  i have been to rehab for alcohol.  this seems like a miracle pill to me.  i know i will not lose a ton of weight from it....but it will help me in the cases in which i suffer....htn...silent migraine...alcoholic cravings.   anyone wanna give me feedback>?

I still have not found a Dr. in my area that accepts medicaid.  I am at a loss for what to do after two years of trying.  I live next to the south Texas border and the closest Dr for medicaid is in Mererro.  He will not take my case because I live to far away.  Am i hopelessly doomed to be overweight forever? IDK
