hey all...i feel like i'm so out of the loop now..i don't know if i have an appointment..haven't checked my mail in a little bit...i oughta do that i guess.  half way through the nutrition class.  it's the last step.  last year at this time i weighed 472 lbs.  i weighed sunday and i weighed in at 370lbs.  so yeah..i broke the century mark....pretty excited about that.    any suggestions on what to do now?  my fam says i should keep going like i am going and not have the surgery.  i don't know if i should miss this opportunity.  haven't heard anything from new orleans since january.  and i had to go hunt down the info myself.

Hi Anje,
The only information I have gotten is that there is only one doctor who takes Medicaid and he's in New Orleans, Dr. Steeb, and the number is 504-412-1366. When I called them they told me I had to have a referral from my PCP and that the doctor was out on medical leave and the earliest appointment they had was June. You should give them a call. Good luck!

This surgeon is out on medical leave until spring.  He does WLS and accepts LA state insurance.  YIPEE

The office is creating a waiting list for future patients.  Just have your PCP fax them a letter and follow up with a phone call.

Topic: RE: MEDICAID AND MEDICARE SURGEONS LIST!
Hello, I am new and looking for a Doctor to do the Lap Band for Medicaid.  I called Medicaid directly and they said there were no doctors on board but they do pay for bariatric surgery.  I hope someone reads my post and gets back to me.

I live in Oakdale, and I have the same challenges as you , no major health problems Thank God, but I know that all of the major health issues are things that my mother and father deal w/ daily so I would like to take some preventative measures now.  I too have medicaid and I am wondering if you were able to find out any information?  My god-sister had surgury in October at Oshners in N.O. paid by medicaid and is doing EXTREMELY GREAT now, she has Lopus, Diabetes, and many other issues and believe it or not since her surgury, maybe even as soon as the next few days, she no longer has had to take any more meds.  She had the sleeve and I must say I am interested as my knees & back bother me and I know that my overweight has a lot to do with it.  My BMI is 40.9 and need to do something right away.  Please let me know if you  were able to get any information please............Anje

Hello Members,
I have read a lot of different posts and I am a little confused. It seems things have changed over the years with Medicaid and I was wondering if anybody has recently had surgery that has LA Medicaid? I do know that Dr. Steeb in New Orleans takes it, but I am trying to find somebody a little closer, as I live in the Leesville/Ft. Polk area and NO is a good 4 hours away. I am trying to find a doc in Shreveport or Lafayette that takes medicaid? My second question is: does anybody know the requirements Medicaid needs in order to pay for the surgery? My BMI is 42-43 but I don't have any "serious" conditions such as high blood pressure, hypertension, type 2 diabetes (which shocks me actually) ; I DO have acid reflux and lots of knee/joints and terrible back pains. I am afraid to get my hopes up that I will qualify for surgery so I am trying to find out as much info as possible. Thanks so much for your help!
