Hello Terri ... I'm an LC grad and lived in Pineville in the late 80s. I love P'Ville!

These events are around Baton Rouge, but if you trained for 5Ks where you are, you could join us for the walks and runs on occassion. We had a lot of OH members travel to be with us during the Walk from Obesity. And we traveled to Slidell for an event there.

We should be in big numbers for the March of Dimes walk on April 24 if you want to make a day of it. We will walk, hang out at LSU afterwards and maybe catch lunch somewhere or a picnic afterwards.

As the year progresses, we have some folks wanted to train for running, tennis and anything else that comes to mind. At some point, there will be hiking (again) and possibly a 40-mile bike ride, but everyone I mention this to thinks I'm crazy. You have some great places for hiking near you, maybe you can suggest something. I've gone hiking at Tunica Hills near the Mississippi line.

Let's keep the dialog going because some of us like day trips and you might want to day trip down here a time or two.

Hug Pineville for me!

Frances

Are all of these activities near Baton Rouge?  They sound like fun.  I am going out on a limb here because for a year I have been saying I would like to do something like this, but  have been to afraid to actually do it.  I live near Alexandria so I am 2 1/2 hours from BR.

Team New U is a team of weight loss surgery patients and their families and supporters who complete in charity walks and runs. This past weekend, we did the Race for the Cure 5K through LSU. Next, we will run or walk in the Seize the Day! walk for epilesy (4/3) and the March of Dimes (4/24). I'm considering the Crescent City Classic, but it's a 10K ....eeeek!

We are also forming a kickball team and we sure would love some company.

Would you like to join us? ... send me a PM

Team Spencer representing and Gayla (at right) helping my daughter keep up a good pace. This was Gayla's first race and she was remarkable ... What a champ!

We have over endulged ... but victory does tastes just too SWEET!

Onward,

Fran

I love love love New Orleans!  It is so beautiful and feels like you are walking around in Europe.

There are so many places to eat, I do not think I have ever been to a place that we did not like.  I really don't know the names of places but if you google popular restraunts in New Orleans it should bring up the big places.  Are you staying in the French Quarter?
There is the aquarium downtown by the river and they have alot to do, there is a War museum that is really interesting if you like history, you have to go to the french market it is awsome, ride the trolley, go to Cafe Du Monde but be carfeul if you dump because it is nothing but carbs and sugar.  But the coffee is really good.  Go down Bourbon street for the atmosphere, but it does smell REALLY BAD!  There is also a cruise you can take on the river that is fun and then there is also the Mall on the River, it is a really nice mall.  You can take an swamp tour where you can feed the alligators (but being from Florida that may not be much fun :o).)
I can't help you with the drinking because I have not really gone there too much.  I am not a drinker and when I have tried it made me sick.

Well I hope  I helped a little bit anyway.

Have fun and BE CAREFUL, it is not a safe city.  Do not go out alone, always go in groups and make sure somebody is sober to take care of the group. Sorry that is the mother in me.  hehe

Topic: RE: Gastric Sleeve in Louisiana
Hi! I had a vertical sleeve done on February 23, 2010 by Dr. Keith Chung out of Lake Charles. I am happy with Dr. Chung, his procedure and his staff. My aunt and cousin had the sleeve done with Dr. Chung 16 months ago and they have both lost around 120 pounds. Their starting weight was around 260.

Louisiana has some great doctors doing the gastric sleeve procedure. There are wonderful options in Baton Rouge, Slidell, Lafayette and Lake Charles, just to name a few. Let me know what area is best and I can be a little more specific.

Results post-surgery really vary depending on how much the patient needed to lose and other factors. Someone 200 pounds overweight is going to lose more than someone 100 pounds overweight, basically that kind of stuff.

At 8 months postop, I lost 101 pounds, but there are sleeve patients in my support group that have far exceeded those types of figures.

It's been a pleasant journey.

Frances

Drs. Parrish and Bledsoe in conjunction with Cabrini have started a Bariatric program right here in Cenla.  They have free seminars at Cabrini every few months to educate everyone about the program.
Looking forward to the best years of my life!
