Topic: Starting my Journey
I am to have my appointment with Dr. Bellows on Tuesday July 6th. I am so anxious and ready to get everything over so that I can have my surgery. My referral and medical records have already been sent to Dr. Bellows. I just wonder how long its going to take once I have this appointment to get approved for surgery. I still have to see a NUT and I dont know if he is going to make me have the sleep study done or not. I havent had it before.I hope they can answer all that on Tuesday. I am so excited. I have been trying to find a doctor for two years and finally i am here yaaaa. I cant wait to be healthy and feel better. No more painfull knees and hopefully my back also. Also maybe no more asthma. Wouldnt that be great. Not to mention no more being embarressed for my kid's friends to see me this large.  Does anyone that has dr bellows know how long it takes from start to surgery? Thanks guys for all the info....Sherri

Specialties:
  • Bariatric Surgery           Bariatric Surgery Bariatric surgery (gastric bypass surgery) is performed to treat severe obesity. A bariatric surgeon is a physician who performs surgery on the stomach and/or intestines of obese patients to reduce the size of the stomach, and therefore allow less food to be ingested, resulting in weight loss. Bariatric or gastric bypass surgery, also known as roux-en-Y gastric bypass, is performed to create a small pouch that bypasses part of the intestine.

Obesity is damaging to one’s health: some of the negative effects of obesity are heart disease, diabetes, some forms of cancer, hypertension, asthma, obstructive sleep apnea, arthritis; and obesity has been known to shorten one’s lifespan.

  • General Surgery           General Surgery General surgery can be performed on almost any area of the body. A general surgeon is a physician who performs surgery and provides preoperative, operative, and postoperative care to surgical patients. This surgeon can treat diseases, injuries or deformities by surgery or minimally invasive techniques, such as endoscopy, where a tiny scope is used to view internal organs or structures. The endoscope can be used during operating procedures, or before surgery, to diagnose, assess and treat problem areas.

Topic: On Vacation - need a Bariatric Dr.
I am in New Orleans for another week and after I eat I have a pretty severe pain on my left side.  My suspicion is an ulcer is forming as it has gotten worse over the past 2 days.  I don't really know what to do if my normal surgeon not on vacation I think he would call in some carafate and see if that helps, but I am here with really no help.  Does any one know of a surgeon who you think would be willing to see me.

Hey Cleta. I visit the VSG forum and the Louisiana forum and thats it. I have learned a great deal from both and see no reason to go to the others. I have seen too much negativity in the other forums. I pray that thick girl is well and that slim chicks surgery goes wonderful. Soon me and you will be joining them on the losers bench getting skinny and healthy. I went to my PCP Tuesday and found out that my BMI was 50.2 so I also have a lot to loose. This will be the journey of our lives.....,Sherri
