It is covered. My husband works for CenturyLink (we have insurance through them) and they covered mine. I had to have a BMI of 40 or more and have a 5 year weight history (just my dr records from anywhere). I was approved in less than a week. They were really easy to deal with. BTW, it's United Healthcare insurance. Good Luck!!

Thank God for this web site! I called EVERY number that I could find that offered the lap band surgery and I could not find any one that would take medicaid. The only place that will take medicaid is Tulane Medical Center. The office number is 504-988-5301. Their fax number is 1-504-988-5301. You have to have your primary care dr. send them a medicaid refferal before a appointment can be made. So have the refferal sent then call.
The other Dr's that people wrote about on here no longer take medicaid. Osner in New Orleans will take it as a 2nd insurance. I'm going to call the medicaid number tomorrow and give them their number so when people call they will be pointed in the right direction. They are the ONLY place in Louisiana that will take medicaid for the Lap Band surgery.

We have found two very nice hotels that are working with us, so you can book rooms at their properties. They will provide free shuttle service to the event hotel. Please see information below and when you book, request an early check in so they get you in on time to come to the Q & A at 3 pm! If they can't, they said they will at least store your luggage.
Doubletree Guest Suites (all are suites with full kitchens) Our rate is $89 + tax, etc. Parking is $12 per day (overnight). You can get 2 queens or 1 king in your suite.

Hey Traci no date yet. Its so aggravating. It has taken me over a month and half to get into a psychology appointment. that's the only thing I have left before Sheila will send for approval. My psych appointment is this Friday. It looks like it will be November before I have surgery. I am starting the liquid diet Monday so that when I get an approval, the surgery clinic will not have to wait for me to start the diet. I wi**** was already here. I am so ready to get it done and be in the loosing phase. Preparing for surgery definitely teaches patients.lol Did Dr, Bellows ever say if he uses a Bougie or if he just removes what he thinks is enough? Are you using chicken broth? Sorry so many questions. I hope that it keeps getting easier. Congrats on the loss of 20 pounds. That is amazing!!!! I have 192 pounds to lose. Keep in touch and stay well...Sherri
