Topic: I am now waiting on my approval!
I went to my appt yesterday with Vanessa, and have been summitted for approval with medicaide. She has told me to start on the protein shakes 1 meal a day, get a doctor to prescribe diet pills, start the liquid vitamins and calcium. Her and Ms. Shelia hugged me and said "am I sure im ready for this?" YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I feel like im in a dream that is finally unfolding.They said I did a great job getting all this ready, and after christmas to start all liquid diet, to get my body ready. Oh also EXERCISE! Im so excited! Thanks for reading! Love Leigh

I used Dr. Merriman, I he very knowledgeable, confident, funny and all of his staff is very nice and friendly. He is straight to the point but he does not make you feel bad or uncomfortable for being there!

Okay,i have done all my test needed before surgery and i still havent found a doc for the psyc eval.if anyone can help me find a doc that expects medicaid and lives in baton rouge or surrounding.that would be a great Christmas gift LOL!

Dr. Norwood just started doing VSG last year. Does anyone have any experience with him with this or other bariatric surgeries? What about other Shreveport doctors/hospitals?

I went to the Smoothie King website and saw that they sell protein powder. So I went to Smoothie King today and ordered a smoothie made with it so I could see how I liked it before buying the big 2LB container. It is called Gladiator whey protein. It comes in strawberry, chocolate, and vanilla. It is very very good and has 45 g of protein per shake. It is also very low carb,low sugar.
You can go to the website www.smoothieking.com and they have the nutritional info and what proteins it is made from. It was made with WLS patients in mind and has the kind of proteins that the body absorbs easily.
Check it out, it is the best I have tried yet.

Hey Sherri - I am so happy that they finally sent it for you - you should hear something this week!! The number you need to call is 800-488-6334. Have your medical card sitting there so you can punch in the number on it and you will be directed to your worker. Do not get discouraged if you get a "no" the first time - I think that is their policy - mail the the thing back fighting it!!

It's hard, I know. I waited more than a year for my date because my doctor's office lost my insurance card. Then I had to go through my bloodwork and internist appointment and my psych eval all over again. In the end, the waiting was all worth it. I am so happy with my gastric bypass.
You will get there, never fear. Patience is difficult. Oh, and by the way, a good ready to drink protein shake (just found these) EAS AdvantEdge Carb Control Cafe Caramel ... 17g of protein, 2g net carbs. Yummy, too. If you haven't found Netrition.com yet, check it out. Lots of good protein items, not expensive and $4.95 shipping no matter what you order.
