I used Dr Gachassin in Lafayette and as louisianagirl09 stated the self pay cost is $11,500.  That breaks down as $8000 for Lafayette General Medical Center and $3500 for the surgeon.  The hospital cost included up to 3 days in hospital if needed and the surgeon's fee includes 1 year of followup checkups with the Dr.  The only other cost I had was $100 for Psych Eval and my lab work preop and postop has been covered by my health insurance.

Love his Bariatric program...there is a nutritionist, exercise person, behaviorial modification person and they are all great.  The monthly support group is also great.  We just had our December support group and instead of our usual meeting we had a Christmas party with everyone bringing a bariatric friendly dish and you brought the recipe to share.

Dr G...you have changed my life for the better.  Thanks you so much.

I don't think the LGMC support group is an open one unless you start seeing Dr Gachassin or Dr Eschette as your surgeon.  Not sure is Dr Chu's support group is an open support group either.  You might want to check with her office.

Topic: What are your plans for Christmas?
I so far have resisted the christmas cookies and eggnog that my husband insists on bringing into the house. I found a recipe for eggnog and holiday desserts on bariatriceating.com that look really good and easy to make. I have my family coming to my home for Christmas dinner this year. I have a big family so their will be approx 28 people at my house!! I love it!! I really need to finish decorating the house and cleaning up. I am having a hard time getting motivated. I love Christmas, I don't know why I cant get moving.
What are you guys planning for the Holidays? Football and food?

Topic: Lake Charles area support group meeting
The support group meeting for the Lake Charles area is next Tues Dec. 21 at 6PM. It is at Women and Children's hospital on the 1st floor the 1st room on the right after you enter thru the main entrance. It is open to anyone. If you are in the area, it is a really good source of info for pre and post surgery. Their is a Bariatric coordinator, a dietician, and usually a WLS nurse attending. They also have specialists that occasionally come and give info about plastic surgery, etc.
Refreshments are there if you want some(like veg soup and crystal lite). Also sometimes they will have samples of proteins, sugar free puddings, etc.
I will send out another reminder closer to the day.
The group meeting is the 3rd tues of every month at 6 PM.
