What to wear?
Lin:
I wore the hospital gown the entire time I was there. It was easier than trying to manuever around the tubes and such. PJ's probably wouldn't be a good choice, since you'll probably have a catheter. I brought my own robe because I had never had much success having a hospital robe that fit. I wore my own slippers too for walking around. I think I wore my gowns the first day or two at home and then some loose fitting clothes till I started losing the fluids from the surgery.
Bring some lip balm with you when you pack for the hospital. My lips got so dry while I was in the hospital. You also might want to make sure you pack some pads in case your period starts after surgery. This is actually quite common. I'm going through menopause, didn't think anything about it and the evening of surgery, wouldn't you know it, there it was.
I work in the deli at the commissary, so if you see me while you're shopping, feel free to stop by and I'll be glad to talk to you if you have any questions.
Cathy
Hey Lin.......congrats! I agree with Cathy......just wear the hospital gowns unless you have a really favorite comfy set you just have to have. There's no fashion show going on while you're trying to heal. I brought my own slippers and the lip balm advice is so right on. My lips were sooooooo dry and I was using balm about every hour or so. You might want to bring your favorite lotion too......that's a nice feel good treat. My husband was so sweet, he would lotion my feet and legs and that put me right out to sleep. Also, I agree with Cathy on the pads too. I started my period ( I know, TMI) the day after surgery. The nurse said that happened alot because of the shock to your body. SO, unless you want to use big ole bulky hospital pads........bring your own comfy ones on the "just in case". After I got home, I spent most of my time in comfy two piece sleep sets. Then graduated to sweats and baggy shirts. Now, I'm back in normal clothes..................good luck on your surgery and ask, ask, ask if you have any other questions!
