Ulcer
I went and got my lab work done last month and my result came back saying I have tested positive for the h-pylori ulcer.I went to my pcp who said seeing the only way I found out about this ulcer seeing I had no symptoms was due to the surgeon ordering these test and he was not going to give me anything seeing it is not bothering me.Will they do surgery with me still having an ulcer or should I find me another pcp because at the end of the appt. he talk to me about all the things that happen and could happen to wls patients. Also could the surgeon I am using call me in the medicine.....Thanks
Your surgeon will prescribe any and all medicine that you need pre and post op. Don't listen to your PCP. I don't mean that in an ugly way, but he just obviously does not know about all the BENEFITS of WLS to morbidly obese patients. I might consider finding another PCP who is more supportive if I were you, unless you are particularly "attached" to that one!!
Just because you tested positive for H-pylori doesn't mean you have an ulcer...it is just the bacteria that can be associated with the development of an ulcer if untreated. As your surgeon ordered the test, he should really be the one to treat the infection. It is generally a combination of two antibiotics. Depending on your surgeon, he will most likely want you to be treated prior to surgery. I would call and speak to the surgeon about this. Your PCP is probably not used to treating this, like your WLS surgeon or a gastroenterologist would be.
Good luck,
