Hi Ashleigh,
Those 20grams of sugar on the label are natural sugars that occur in most types of foods -- fruits, veggies and milk. Sugars are a big group of nutrients, not just one thing. Frutose is the natural sugar in fruit; lactose is the natural sugars in milk; and then there's refined sugars that are ADDED to foods. Refined sugars are corn syrup, white cane sugar, etc.
If something is sugar free, it has no added sugar, but there are still natural sugars in it. In most cases, sugar-free items will be OK for you. That said, you have to watch some foods that have high levels of natural sugars. Orange Juice might be too sweet for you. Strawberries and bananas shoud be given some caution early on also.
I don't dump, but I follow the above rules on sugar content. I drink things that are sugar free and limit stuff that has high levels of natural sugars. I won't drink more than 4 oz of orange juice and only 1/2 banana.
I drink low-carb juices from Wal-Mart. They have no added sugar, but my brand has 10 grams of natural (fruit) sugars in each serving.
NOW, have I confused you enough.
Work it out, baby, you can do it.
Frances
Ashleigh,
I was told to I could drink 100% fruit juice. It does have sugar but it is natural like Francis said. I would dilute the juice 1/2 water and 1/2 juice. It just tasted way to sweet for me and still does. I could not have milk or milk products till I was two weeks out. Can't help you on that one.
Hope all is well,
Jodi

Hey Ash, stick to sugar free. Most of the diet juices are sugar free. I drink Diet V-8 splash, tropical and fruit medley. The fruit medley taste the best to me. And yes you can have the sugar free fudgesicles too. They do have more calories that the Popsicles though. My doc said no to orange juice because it has a lot of acid in it and that is bad for your pouch. But I have had some and it wasn't too bad. I just don't drink a lot of it. But minute maid makes diet juices too so you could try them. A lot of juice companies make diet juices now. I also drink the diet ocean spray grapefruit sometimes too.
