Need advice from veteran of Lapband
I had my surgery on October 25, 2005. My second fill was about a month ago and I have been experiencing the following symtoms and want to know if they are normal. First, in the morning , no matter what I eat I feel disconfort for the first bites of food. Second, I have thrown up about four or five times. Usually at night during the first bites of my dinner. Sometimes I can finish my dinner, but, last night I could not, too much disconfort. My question is: am I eating too fast or choosing the wrong foods? Finally is my band too tight? Or is this all normal? Does the band need to be loosen? Linda
Hi Linda,
What you describe gets discussed a lot on the lap band board and I've also experienced it.
The fact that you feel discomfort in the first few bites is a sign that you are not eating too much. You could be too tight or you could be experiencing esophagial spasms. With these spasm, you get a hard pressure and pain in your chest with your first few bites. Home remedies to help include drinking hot liquids right before eating solids.
I'm not more uncomfortable in the morning. Other than that, I could have written your post. I don't think I'm too tight cause I'm more than a year ahead of you and I have a total of 1 cc in my band.
I have a few theories and I plan to run them past my surgeon this afternoon. I'll come back and post a reply tonight.
Take care,
Frances
Kyra,
Are you asking me?
This didn't come out directed at me, but it must me, so I will answer. Yes, I lived in Lake Charles and I worked at the American Press.
I've noticed you on the lap board and I think I responded once on the main board that it was good to see someone from Lake Charles here. I'm a native of the Lake Area.
Howdy!
Frances

Hi Linda,
I'm sorry if took a few days for my reply. My doctor says he doesn't want to put me through the trauma of a endoscope since I've had so many surgeries. He said my symptoms did sounds like possible esophagial spasms. We are taking a wait and see attitude about them for 3-4 weeks. He said there is a medicine that might help with the spasms and we could consider that if the problem continues. It's not an everyday thing for me, so I'm unsure which direction we will go.
If I'm tolerating things well, I might get a fill next month. I've not had much because of the surgeries (six since the lap band 18 months ago). I'm 80 pounds down, but it seems like more because my muscle mass is improving greatly.
It's always good to hear from you and I wish you well.
Onward!
Frances
