Yucky Day, could have been the Gladiator!

Hey everyone! Well, my morning started off pretty good, no complaints! I finally decided to try to leave the house and go get the famous Gladiator from smoothie king, but i think that was a BAD choice for me! I also went to go get my hair cut and that felt so good and relaxing with her washing my hair and then cutting it and styling it for me to come home and take a nap, LOL. Okay, the gladiator, I got it around noon, I got it with strawberry fruit juice. The first sip wasn't too tasty for me. But I can't afford to throw five bucks down the drain! So....i sipped on it for an hour, still had over half left and my stomach started feeling queezy, REAL queezy! here it comes! At the time, I didn't think it was the smoothie so kept drinking it for another hour and then again! At that time, Carrissa, my lovely beautician, said Christie I'm throwing this drink away!!! I agreed! On the way home, I'm at a red light and the door is open and yep, I was feeling so funky!!! I came home and said okay, nap time I woke up around six and have twice. I'm scared to drink anything right now! My stomach is now cramping really bad! I don't think I'll ever try the gladiator again!!!!!! I don't like this feeling and hope it doesn't happen to often!! Any suggestions???

For one it's way to soon for you to be drinking that. You should wait at least three or four weeks before drinking something that heavy. It has natural sugar in it from the fruit and that can make you sick. Plus that is just way to much on your pouch right now. Also my doctor said if you throw up don't eat or drink anything for a couple of hours because your pouch needs time to heal. You should stick to smaller protions of protein right now and no sugar. Eventually you should be able to handle it but right now it is just to soon. I'm sorry your sick, but you live and learn. In the beginning fruit made me sick but now I can eat small amounts of it and I'm fine. Hope you feel better. Tina

Thanks Tina.....I guess I misunderstood my dietician when she kept talking about that gladiator, i thought she meant to try it now! Even later, girl, i don't think I will, LOL. It was just NOT NICE ON ME!!! I guess that was called "dumping"? I did wait several hours before drinking anything else, and I even felt my stomach growal at me, that was funny b/c it was the first time I felt it!!! Thanks so much for your response, I really agree with UUUUU!!!

Christie did you know they put "turbinado" in most of their smoothies? It's that raw cane sugar, and could also have provoked your tummy.... not to mention the possibility of milk in it? I agree... too soon for that thick/heavy stuff... stick with something light and easy on you (Isopure zero carb, unflavored unjury in crystal lite, profect on ice). Be careful and be kind to your pouch... start with low volumes and very few "mixers" when you start on proteins for me, the gladiator at home will probably be my only smoothies after surgery.

Hey kat....I felt so guilty to my poor lil stomach saturday after sipping on that smoothie for a couple of hours! Especially when I was constantly throwing up. I started my protein when I came home wednesday afternoon. And i'm actually mixing it in skim milk. My dietician said that would be fine, plus it gives me more protein. The protein i use is from walmart. The taste has never bothered me, plus I had tried it before, my brother is in football and he drinks it! To me, it taste like slim fast! Milk has not been a problem for me, thank goodness, b/c i cant do the protien in water! yuk yuk yuk My other liquids have been crystal light and apple juice oh and popsicles and jello! I've done the chicken broth a few times, but that is just chicken flavored water! I still haven't reached my 64 ounces a day yet! I sleep a lot during the day and that contributes to me not getting it all in. I meet back with my dietician and surgeon tomorrow, I'll discuss all this with them! And for you......if you have the money to pay for the surgery...I would do it! I'm a week post op today and have NO REGRETS!!! Good Luck

Christie, I agree with Tina it is way to soon for you to have something that heavy. I never really liked the gladiator anyway. I one I get is the Angel Food Cake with the protien added to it. I was about 6 weeks out when I tried it and at first i thought it was ok but then after a few more sips I felt sick. So I waited til I was about 8 weeks and tried it again and was fine with it. I am now almost 6 months(the 16th). I love to get smoothies all the time. I know what you mean about getting your hair cut. I had mine cut and highligted last Saturday. I feel sooooo much bettter. take care, Chrissy 226/158/125

hi Christie, sorry you had bad experience with gladiator, yea, i agree to soon, expecially with fruit added, I bought the container myself, and now make mine at home with pinapple and bannanna, smoothie king uses pinapple and juice (which has more sugar) so i make my own.. it was probably too much on you right now.. good luck!!!!
